  • what is the best option?

    hi,
I hope some exercise experts here can help me.
I can walk on my treadmill for an hour, that is 4 kms. (my bf says it is miles...we dont know how it is programmed really...) my heart rate is bt 145 to 150. That for my age is considered cardio.
I can walk run walk run for 30 minutes , 3 kms or miles. my heart goes up to 160/m, power training.
What is the best option here for me? What helps me losing more weight or gain more muscle?

    thanks

    Ele

For a start it sounds as though the "4 figure" is definitely km's.

Secondly, the best option for you, is to do what ever puts your heart rate up the most.

Re: what is the best option?

the run walking it the best as that is CAlled HIIT high intensity interval training. thetopic you quote is for long didtance runners not cardio runners, and it is discussing the training effect and the using of the organ emergency glycogen reserves. So the question becomes are yu a highly traoned athelete running at high speed for your full hour getting your heart rate up there?

if you are a beginner or early into your program your heart and body are not used to doing the miles yet but as they get used to it you will see your heart rate go down for the same didstance time and speed.

        Happy low carbing.

I would say that the treadill is in Miles Most treadmills are. They do it in miles cause it's easier to Put it goes up to 10MPH which is standard on most treadmills then it is to go to 16KPH. Almost all treadmills are miles I haven't actually run accross one in KMS. I live in Canada and all the treadmills here are in miles even know we go by KMS.

4 MPH that's awesome you are getting a great workout.

I'm not sure at all Sarah. In europe the majority of treadmills count in kilometres.

Yes, Rich, we are a 'metric' country and they are all in km/p/h. I think Sweden is metric too - the answer would be how do they measure car distance travelled. If the car speedometers are in kph, then I reckon the treadmills will be in kms.
