  • Advice on dumbells/weight training

At the moment my cardio mainly consists of brisk walking (in the hilliest city in England!) and walking/running intervals when I can use my sister's treadmill.

I'd like to start doing some weight training at home, and was looking at these dumbells - do you think these would be suitable for a relative beginner? I'm quite strong already, do you think these would be heavy enough for me?

My plan is to join a gym at the start of the summer when I can hopefully afford to, so my goal (apart from losing weight/building muscle) obviously is to get myself used to gym type activities, so I don't look so crap when I start there!

    Thanks

Pre Bowflex I had some wieghts. I just bought the "best" basic set I could find and then added some more seperate weight discs (for the life of me I can not think of what they are called...plates?) as needed. I would go to the store...and try them out.

I don't know a thing about weight in KG, but I can tell you, I'm a 5'4" woman, and we got a home gym thing with 100 pounds on it. Won't be long before that just doesn't cut it for me. With those weights I would think you can adjust by buying more, heavier plates as you go, so it looks like a good starter set. I'd make sure to buy something you can definitely buy more plates for later if you need. If you're strong already, it probably won't take you long to be able to lift more!

They look like they have the room to adjust the plates between exercises for different weights you may want to use.

www.powerblock.com has some nice dumbbell sets that are easy to adjust the weights and is actually less expensive then buying a bunch of different dumbbell sets.
