Could you not lose weight but get on the scale the next day and go up half a pound and that half a pound be muscle?

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Yes you can gain muscle and lose fat, the difference will be shown in the tape measure. Track your body fat percentage to see if lean body mass / fat has been lost or gained. www.mybodycomp.com offers a easy way to see your exact progress using a tape measure

            Great thanks!!

About running-- when is the best time to run. In the Atkins book I believe I read that you should eat two hours before a hard workout, so that's usually what I do, but I also read somewhere else that its best to workout first thing after waking up and on a empty stomach. Confused.

Work out when it is most convient for you but to optimize your results it would depend on whether you plan to do resistance training or cardio.

While doing resistance training the extra carbs will help give some more energy to lifting weights and while doing cardio the least amount of carbs in your system at the time you start will help with fat oxidation.

I like to do my cardio in the mornings on an empty stomach and do my weight lifting later after I have more carbs in my system. If you are planning on doing both in a single session I would recommend doing your weight lifting first to burn the carbs followed by your cardio training.
