  • No energy to exercise

I have been on the diet on and off . Before I used to follow the diet and exercise just one time a week ,The weight loss was incredible and noticeable . I am on the diet again , and I am working out 7 days a week for one and a half hours every day . (weight ,cardio etc etc ) I have been doing this for about 2 weeks and I dont feel I am loosing as much weight as before . What could be the problem ?? I am also tired all the time I barely have energy to go to the gym how can I avoid being so tired .

    Re: No energy to exercise

    gemini,
This is my second time around on Atkins and I noticed that I didn't lose as fast as the first time. There are some theories that you can mess up your metabolism by going on and off....
However, I do cardio and weight lifting 6 days a week. I do one day lifting, the next cardio with one day off of both per week. I can tell you though, even though I haven't lost POUNDS as fast, I'm smaller now than I was last time at 18 lbs lighter. Hopefully that makes sense. I'm smaller even though I weigh 18 lbs more. It's got to mean that I'm building more lean body mass because of the exercise. Maybe thats happening to you too.

In regards to your fatigue...maybe you are overdoing it a little. Try to give your muscles a break in between workouts. Lift one day, cardio the next. You didn't mention what you are eating, so I can't make any judgements on that, but make sure that you are getting enough food....make sure you are eating every six hours. You also don't mention if you are taking supplements or not...if you aren't, you might want to give that a try. It seems to help me.

I found that the only times I was tired on Atkins (I work out very regularily) was when I wasn't consuming enough calories. Are you ever hungry?

        Hello:

Fatigue can be caused by many different things. First your body does need to rest at the very min, take one day off a week. Also as the about posted asked, are you eating enough?

Are you getting enough carbs and protein? For someone that exercises that much you will need additional carbs and protein.

Also measure with a tape measure or have your body fat percentage checked. If your increasing muscle size you may not notice by the scale that you are also losing inches and fat at the same time.

          Re: No energy to exercise

When I first started Atkins I was so weak I didn't bother with working out, but once the energy kicked in I was more motivated. Then I got in a rut because I was working out all the time and got burned out. So now, I work out 3-4 times a week and mix it up. Some days I walk, some run, some swim or I do yoga. It really has helped me not get bored because that is my one major problem. You maybe working out too much and not letting your muscles rest and rejuvinate to get you through your workouts. I would notice though that I was really light headed during workouts if I hadn't had any carbs at all if that makes sense. I guess it is all about balance.

            Re: No energy to exercise

I've noticed that the time of day I work out makes a HUGE difference for me...if I work out at the end of the day (after work) I am just too exhausted. If I go early in the morning, before work, not only am I tired, but I feel tired all day long (because I had to get up so early LOL ). My best time is to go to the gym during lunch, when my energy is best.

Also, are you eating enough a few hours before you work out? Be sure to drink lots of water while you exercise too, that can help.

7 days a week...eek! As Tommy said your body needs a little rest

              Re: No energy to exercise

My first thought too was that you need a rest day. If you're exercising that much for fitness, then it's probably overkill. For example, running three times a week for half an hour will make you cardio-vascularly fit. Running longer won't make you fitter, but at that point you're doing it for a different reason, like, running a marathon. (At least that's what all my running/triathlon books and training tell me). Even if you are training for an event like a triathlon, you still need a rest day.

It looks like you've done your two weeks of induction. I'd really encourage you to move to OWL and find your CCL. With the amount of exercise you're doing, I think you'll be surprised to find it may be quite high.

I agree with Isa. Rest a day or two a week. This is a life long plan....not a sprint. Rest will make a big difference. And make sure you are eating enough.

                  Re: No energy to exercise

I agree, you need to rest your Body is going through a Huge change right now and trying to Adapt to Lower carbs for energy as well as to Exercise you may at this Point be overtraining which the syptomes of this are.

The common warning signs of overtraining include the following:

                  • Mild leg soreness, general achiness
                  • Pain in muscles & joints
                  • Washed-out feeling, tired, drained, lack of energy
                  • Sudden drop in ability to run ‘normal’ distance or times
                  • Insomnia
                  • Headaches
                  • Inability to relax, twitchy, fidgety
                  • Insatiable thirst, dehydration
                  • Lowered resistance to common illnesses; colds, sore throat,
Please be careful this can be very serious I don't want to scare you but, if you overtrain you can really hurt your body. Make sure you have adequate rest days and Build up your exercise slowly don't just jump in hard with both feet and not allow your body to adapt. A lot do this and then end up falling off the exercise wagon because of Overtraining.

Rest for a few days and I surely hope you feel better.

                    Re: No energy to exercise

Dr Atkins says in DANDR the only folk he tells to eat more are the ones suffering from fatigue and weakness. you coukd be low on fuel and need more or you could be missing some vitasl vits or minerals with your poor food choices in induction. Move to OWL and add 5 net grams more of those yummy induction acceptable vegies and see if you don't feel better.

                    Happy low carbing.
