Walk whenever you can. Park as far away from your destination. Take the stairs. Do crunches while you watch television.

      Re: Motivation

I hate to exercise too! I found that I have to get ready early every morning and MAKE myself go for a walk. Trust me, I make all the excuses and put it off, but once I get OUT there and am exercising, I wonder why I made such a fuss, because I end up enjoying that time! I have found a brisk walk first thing in the morning, after I put 3 of the 5 kids on the bus, is VERY relaxing and a good way for me to wind down after finding shoes and backpacks. It's so hard, but I barely exercised for my first 2 weeks of induction and thought, wow! I'm losing and don't even HAVE to exercise. Then I stopped for two weeks. I stayed at the same exact weight. That pushed me more and I began to put priority on exercise. I started losing again, quite rapidly. I promise though, eventually the weight loss will slow or stop, especially the closer you get to goal, and then the only choice will be to exercise, or get frustrated and give up. Start really slow, maybe a 10 min walk, move up a little at a time. But FORCE yourself to put on your tennis shoes and just walk somewhere every day and it will becaome habit! You'll probably enjoy it too! I know how you feel, but look how well you are doing with this WOL so far! I know you can do this! Good luck!

        Re: Motivation

find something anything you like that will increase your heart rate at a sustained level for 30 min and doi that as your exercise. you don't have to do a formal exercise program/ walk dance play with the kids if you got some doa video what ever you want. Even if you can do 30 min straight do 10 min 3 times a day and build your strenght and stamina until you can do the full 30 min. once you have been doing if for 2 weeks you will be surprized how easy it is and how hooked you are on it.

          Re: Motivation

I bet if you took a poll, most, if not all, people who exercise would say when they first started that they LACKED MOTIVATION. I know I did .. until I realized what a lard butt I had become and made up my mind that once I lost the weight I didn't want to look like a balloon with the air let out of it!

So I committed to exercise for 1 month. I figured after 30 days, I'd have all the motivation I'd need to continue. And sure enough .. that was January 19, 2002 and I'm STILL motivated! In fact, I wouldn't miss my exercise FOR ANYTHING. My life revolves around it now ... SERIOUSLY!

The benefits of exercise go without saying.

          JUST DO IT.

            Re: Motivation

Try starting out with small things...for example, first week, go once that week. Next week aim for twice. Third week...well you can see what I mean. That way, it's not so overwhelming and it gets you hooked really fast!

Is there a friend you can buddy up with? That can make a world of difference because when you plan together, it's hard to back out (i.e., saying you'll do it tomorrow, which becomes two days, etc.)

Find music that's motivating...for me it's high beat techno dance mixes. They just have that effect on my mind and puts me in certain a frame of mind. There's music in all genres that can be enervating...so find whatever you like!

Get a brand new workout video...there's one called Denise Austin's Fat Burning Blast. It's only around 20 minutes, but boy does it get you sweating! Just a suggestion on one of many. In the past, I've lost weight with this video. Recently, I returned to the gym because it's near my work place.

            Best wishes!!
