  • I ran 5K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, some of you may not realize what a miracle this is. Even when I've been in shape in the past, I've never been able to run, or even jog. Walking is about all I could handle without coughing up a lung.

Well, today, after 6 months of vidiot cardio as preparation, I hopped on the treadmill at the gym and punched in the 5K program. I ran the program mostly at 6 miles per hour. I dropped down to 4 miles per hour for two 2 minute breaks and pushed it up to 7 miles per hour for a couple of 30 second bursts. I can't believe I did it!!!!!

In fact, for some reason, I think the treadmill program went a little further than 5K. Maybe it's designed to have a warm up and cool down in addition to the 5K run? Not sure. I did my own 4 mph cooldown at the end, so all in all, I was on the treadmill for about 40 minutes and burned something like 400 calories.

Thanks, Rich! I feel great right now. I'm really excited to have done it. I think the next goal is probably to increase the distance, with a goal of 5 miles and then 10K. I'm going to work up to that sloooowly though, with combos of walking and jogging.

        Woo Hoo, Lawyerchick!

I knew you were a vidiot but had no idea that you were on your way to becoming a runner. I am so impressed!

Way to go Lawyerchick. This running stuff is addictive. I remember being amazed at my first 5k too. Now, I am training for my second marathon.

Thanks Val, Rich (both of 'em), and Betty!

Still feeling good today, although my hip flexors are a bit sore, as well as my shins. (Not shin splints, though.) Planning on heading over to the gym again this afternoon and trying it again, maybe at a slower or more mixed pace. I'm really excited. I'm not going to give up my beloved videos for running exclusively, but I'll definitely try to mix it in.
