BACK FROM ORLANDO!
What a whirlwind trip ...
Breakfast was served at 4 a.m. at the local IHOP. I loaded up with 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 link sausages, and 2 ham steaks. One slice of whole wheat toast with butter and jelly and a diet coke. We left for the park at 5:25 and arrived about 10 minutes later.
GREAT RUN .. for both DD and I ... her mom beat her, so all is right with the world!
It was 68 degrees and 94% humidity when the race started. Not a cloud in the sky and absolutely zero wind. They announced there were nearly 2,000 runners. We started about 5 minutes late for whatever reason and it was a good thing because I stood in line for the potty right up until 3 minutes prior to the gun. 2,000 runners and 20 toilets (WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??)
Great route .. some good "hills" with the overpasses and exit ramps. We started at Animal Kingdom, ran to MGM Studios and through the entire park, then on to the Resort Area of Epcot and past the Yacht Club / Beach Club and then on to Epcot, all the way through World Showcase and back to Spaceship Earth and the parking area. The sun was BLISTERING HOT. Isn't this July??? 89 degrees at the finish line. Can you say brutal?
I finished 828th out of 1,489 runners, in a time of 1:49:14. Very happy with that .. In my age bracket (50-54) I finished 51 out of 100 runners. Again .. pretty daggoned pleased!
DD finished in 2:02 which, considering the fact the girl DOES NOT TRAIN .. we were all very proud of her effort. She had never run a distance like that before .. and got very emotional at the end .. bursting into tears and feeling rather embarrassed until I told her I cried like a baby when I finished the marathon and that is NORMAL when you give any race EVERYTHING YOU HAVE. I am so proud of her for having the courage to try and do it, let alone doing it that well. She's talking about training for the Disney Half Marathon in January (ATTAGIRL!!) She even *hinted* at the possibility of a full marathon down the road.........
Enjoy the pix!
