  • Curves?

    Hey all,

Just wanting some feedback. I am a martial arts instructor, so get plenty of isometric exercise in daily (2 hours) but have a chance at a month long "buddy pass" to curves. Has anyone ever been? I would appreciate feedback!

    Thanks!

    Re: Curves?

I've never been, but would love to know how it works if you go.
    June Goals
    1. Continue with water
    2. Use bike more (3x per week would be nice).
    3. Continue with videos.
    4. Go to the YMCA for water classes.
    5. Build stamina for more walking.

    Goals for May:
    1. Water every day - at least 100 oz.
    2. Walk through Wal Mart instead of ride.
    3. Post every day.
    4. Get the exercise bike out of basement and use it!
    5. Re-read DANDR! It's been too long.

      Re: Curves?

It is good for people who are just getting started with their exercise program. I loved the atmosphere as it was so friendly and never intimidating like some 'gyms' can be. The staff at my facility did a good job measuring and motivating.

The only 'con' is that if you are already in decent shape or are exercising in some structured way, it is not very challenging and isn't a 'high' calorie type burn. You get out what you put in to a certain point but there is only so much you can do before you max out.

Like I said, it is really good for getting you into a routine but you may have to up the ante at some point

        Re: Curves?

I think that since you are a martial arts instructor, you would be bored silly. If you don't know what Curves is all about, it's a circuit workout using hydraulic machines instead of weighted machines. You spend 30 seconds on each machine, music is playing and there's a cue to let you know to move on, then you do cardio for 30 seconds (jump up and down, run in place, whatever), then move on...complete the circuit three times and you're done.

It *is* really really great for women who are just starting out, have limitations, or are totally intimidated by the gym.

Personally, there's just something so kicka$$ about pumping iron, I'll take the gym .

I've been very interested in aikido...which martial art do you teach?
