Re: Cool Running for the Week of May 7th to May 13th

    Sarah,

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have no idea how long I have been trying to find an answer/tips to running and living a lowcarb lifestyle. I did feel that it could happen. I printed off your tips and will use them for future long runs.

I have noticed that I was lethargic for the first 3 days and about a week after but I have been doing induction (well sort of-not very planned and a lot of lowcarb junk) for the last 3 weeks and it seems to have gotten much better. This morning I had a lot of energy, I just started my "clean" induction today so we'll see what it is like over the next week. I feel so much better then when I was eating carbs, I think I was a raving sugar, white flour addict.

Again thank you! Look forward to learning more. Also wanted to say you look great!

Oh thanks sooo much. I was in the Mind set that you couldn't run Low carb but, I was reading about a Guy Stew Mittleman who runs Ultra Marathons on the Low carb Lifestyle and well I was Hooked and he is sooo right you don't need to carb load to run. There will be a ton of People who tell you OH, I tried low carbing and couldn't run but, 90% of the time they never gave their Bodies enough time to adapt. Just keep it light for the first few week you will be tired as your body adapts but hold on to your socks cause you'll be flying when your body realizes hey I don't need crap to run. You'll be better off and also won't gain weight while training which a lot of Carb loader long distances do cause they can't get enough energy and thier bodies can't function without the high carbs.

My body is a machine and It eats FAT!!!! HA HA HA

Re: Cool Running for the Week of May 7th to May 13th

Hey guys, I don't think I am officially a "runner," at least not in the way you guys are, but I wanted to pop into Cool Running and say hello.

A few posts down I posted the thread "Formal Declaration" about my running plan to train for a 5k in September. I've wanted to run for years, especially since beginning the WoE and starting other forms of exercise, but I kept telling myself "you'll run when you get to 199." Well, I decided to heck with that and I'd take the big leap.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I did my first training session today. (3 miles distance in pattern of: 3/8 mile walked, 1/8 mile run; 6 times) So I ran 3/4 miles total. I don't know if it counts, but I wanted to tell somebody. I've been really active up until this point with other exercise, especially swing and latin dancing, but I had to really reach inside myself to actually jog (I think we build up this big mental blocks against what we think we can't do).

And it may sound fruity, but I actually cried in the car driving home from the track where I trained today (moving to a site within walking distance within the week) because I was so proud of myself for sticking to my guns. Running is such an amazing feeling!

Man, a novel, but let me know, guys, if I shouldn't post here because I'm not running far enough yet. My second week, my 3 miles will be alternating quarter miles for a total of 1.5 miles running, 1.5 miles jogging.

          You guys inspire me.

I just want to say reading your post made me smile! I didnt' start thie Cool Runnings and am new..but wanted to tell you I think what you did today is amazing. Keep up the jogging/walking that is how I have built up to 30 min of jogging. I don't actually "run" I jog but I count it as 'running!'

For me, there is nothing more challenging and rewarding then a good "run" in the morning. I consider myself a runner even if I am slow! There is just something about running, dont' know what it is exactly.

aw thanks Sarah, I'm so glad that you said you started running at 255... my mother thinks I'm insane and that I'll kill myself jogging, but I say I'd kill myself sitting on the couch all day. I promise I'll post my sessions.

Thanks for accepting a newbie into your special club.

5 miles last night, in 49:43. Not my quickest speed, but pleased to be averaging just below 10 minute miles.

Week 1 Session #2 was today, same drill as Session #1. 2.5 miles walked, .5 mile jog total. For some reason, it felt a little easier today, but I am no less proud than I was Thursday. Session #3 is on Tuesday.

                        BACK FROM THE CRUISE!!

We had a great time .. cruised from Tampa to Grand Cayman and then on to Cozumel Mexico .. I did learn *one* thing ... anyone who weighs under 100 pounds should *not* have 5 Mexican-margaritas in 4 hours! Nuff said!

I did manage to run 22.3 miles in 4 days .. not too bad, but I have another 10 miler planned for today, which will get me back in the normal range for a week.

You guys are doing great!!! So glad you didn't let up just cuz I was AWOL!!
