  • Noisy knees!

    When I do lunges, my knees make this horrible snap-crackle-pop kinda noise. It doesn't hurt ( feels a bit weird, though) but I was wondering if this is normal? I mean, am I hurting anything? I figure it's just old age or lack of exercise. What do you all think?

    I don't know the answer to this question, but my left shoulder made a similar noise and I got a pop feeling so I just stopped doing the particular moves that caused this! lol I figured there were other exercises I could do that would help the area that didn't cause that. Hopefully someone comes around that can give a good answer to this!

      Hey, mine do that but, I was told by my doc unless it causes pain not to worry about it. mine sound really gross and it's mroe annoying to me then anything. I wouldn't worry too much unless it's painful. Just be sure you are doing your lunges Properly when you do them. Back straingh not too short of a lunge if you lunge down and you have to roll onto your toe your lung is too short and you are putting added pressure on your knee. The angle of your leg bend when felly down on your lunge should be 90 degrees. Have a look in a mirror if you can to see if you are doing it correctly.

        Thanks, Sarah. I will be sure and check my form. Sometimes when I go past my limit I can feel myself leaning forward too much and have to correct myself. The noise is gross, I agree. But it doesn't hurt. I just feel like I'm squishing all of the juice out of them or something. It's hard to put into words.
        And while I've got you here, does a squat work a different part of your leg? I'm really looking for definition as I have really big long legs.

          What kind of Definition are you looking for. I can tell you there are 2 different Kind of Lunges the 90 degree lunge which works mainly the Quad then there is a lunge where you overstpe your leg is more like 120 degrees that works more the Hamstrings. The Squate is a very good overall toner of the Front leg. It works a bit of everything depending on the position of the legs. Tight legs work mainly the Outer thigh and the Quads if you spread you legs shoulder width apart and squat you work the but the inner thigh as well as the Quads. Squates are excellent for leg definition as are Lunges but, you don't want to forget the hamstrings or you will have strange shaped legs. You want to Build the entire leg to have a uniformed beautiful leg.

            In my case, it was arthritis in both knees. I wear a support on my right knee while exercising. I would say if you're over 40, have a doctor check them out just in case.
