  • Tried Pilates today!

Well, My wife bought a DVD Player for the TV in the basement and gave me some Pilates DVDs to try out. It wasn't as bad as I expected (I hate abs) !!!
I'm going to give it a go for the month of June and see what kind of results I get. I need AB work more than anything else. It also seems good for the flexability. Anybody that wants to share your Pilates experience with me, I'd like to hear about it!
    Thanks, Jack W.

I've personally not done Pilates, but do Callanetics, which is kind of like it. I have the program to be beneficial to flexability, balance, and overall toning. It's been amazing to see how quickly the results have shown.

Good luck, and hopefully some Pilates folks will give you some positive feedback.

I did them but they were too slow for me and the belly button kissing the spine was just too much for me so I switched to my fitness ball free exercises while sitting stuff for abs. Several NFL players have been shown doing them and sweating buckets too.

I have done Pilates. When done right you are sore the next day, I like the feeling of something being sore where i know muscle used to be

        Good Luck

I do a pilates dvd when I want something with less impact. I have AM and PM Pilates mat workout from Gaiam. It has 2 20 minute workouts. The "am" workout is less complicated than the "pm" and there is also a bonus 12 minute workout that is more aerobic. i enjoy it alot. I'm no pilates expert so it's a nice challenge for me. When I'm not doing that dvd I do Billy Blanks Boot Camp.

The more I do Pilates, the more I like it. It is a nice change from some of the heavy aerobic workouts that I do.

Don't know much about pilates. Do you need equipment to do it?

I had the same experience. I didn't quite understand the slight nuances of each move so I didn't feel I was getting that much out of it.

                  Sallyseachange,
No equipment...It's basically alot of slow core building and strenthening mostly floor excercises. Kinda like ABs but not as intense. It is a nice compliment to an aerobic workout. I like doing it before my aerobic workout because the stretching warms me up nicely. Pilates is the type of excercise that you can do for 20 minutes a day, but within that time frame you can always better yourself by working on your form and technique, and digging deeper and getting a little bit more each time you do it.

All you need is a DVD or a VCR player and about an 8'x10' area rug or mat to lie on. I find the motivation of the workouts helps me to strive to get a little more out of it each time. Since the start of the pilates and the stairclimbing challenge a few weeks ago I dropped from a size 36 to a size 34 and 2 notches on my belt!
