  • Resting Heart Rate

i checked my bp yesterday at the store. numbers were good but the resting pulse rate was 81. i took a look see at a website this morning and 81 is horrible. granted, i had been walking through the store and it was mid afternoon and i had just stressed over the choices of vitamins.

i was sitting here at the computer just reading a little bit ago and decided this mgiht be an okay time to check it again. 16 beats per 15 seconds, equalling 64 per minute.

    what's yours?

    13 X 4 = 52

52 bpm, and yes, I'm sure it's that. Since I've become a gym rat, my resting heart rate is significantly lower than most people. But I'm glad, it means my heart is in GREAT shape!

      Re: Resting Heart Rate

that sounds like a great number to me!
the site i looked at this morning stated some of the causes of a high number. anemia and estrogen levels ranked high. as a menapausal woman, i think the estrogen thing is getting me at each turn.

        Re: Resting Heart Rate

My resting heart rate is 48....or was the last time I checked it.

I'm scared to check it these days. LOL Give me a week or two to start getting my flabby butt back in shape and then maybe I'll brave the RHR test again.

              Re: Resting Heart Rate

i forgot to check mine when i woke up this morning, i am seeing on every site that first thing when waking is when it should be checked to get the numbers for RHR. i had been upstairs twice, started a load of laundry, stripped the bed, got breakfast for jack and got him off to work, then i checked and it was 72.

i also found this, this morning.

This formula is used to calculate target heart rate (THR) during exercise
to get the maximum aerobic benefit from your workout:
              1. Start with the number 220 and subtract your age and resting heart rate. _______

              2. Multiply the number from line 1 by 60% and add back your resting heart rate.______

              3. Multiply the number from line 1 by 85% and add back your resting heart rate.______

              4. These two numbers give you the range you should be working in.

              5. You should check your pulse during exercise and maintain a number between 60 & 85% (the results from lines 2 & 3), this is your target heart range.

                  Re: Resting Heart Rate

Mine is mid 50's last i checked. Mine has always been quite low, even when i was an out of shape smoker. I remember being tested in a gym where they put me on an exercise bike and tried to raise my hr to a certain number and couldn't. the girl actually didn't believe I was a pack a day smoker! which of course wasn't a good thing to tell me..since it just gave me one more reason to justify my habit.

I have a Polar HRM, I really should start using it for my runs.
