          Happy Monday...

My goal for this week is to add 12 miles to the group.

Starting off with some mileage to add at the beginning of the week is always a good thing!

          Monday ~ 3 miles

I am wondering if/how you runners calculate approximate calories burned from the runs? I am trying to play with fitday.com and wonder if the calories are pretty accurate? Do you add in the time or have a different way of trying to approximate the cals burned?

Hope you feel better, iyamama, migranes are not fun

Re: Cool Running For The Last Week Of June 2006!!

Kjs .. I wear a heart rate monitor that calculates my calories burned, based on my weight and heart rate .. for me, at 98 pounds, I burn roughly 90-95 calories per mile when I run at about 4.5 mph. The more you weigh, the more calories you burn. Also, the slower you run, the more percentage of your calories burned will be FAT.

            Monday: 6.3 miles done!

OK, me again, I was MIA and AWOL again. But that said, 5 miles this morning, a bit slow and walked some. I don't think I was hydrated enough from yesterday, had a couple of drinks which messes up hydration big time, but only a couple of minutes off my usual (as of late) time.

4.6 mile race on the 4th, I think I'll be hardpressed to beat last years time. But my niece is running with me this year.

Re: Cool Running For The Last Week Of June 2006!!

                  Fabulous mileage additions!

Tues ~ 3 miles downhill jog (brief walking intermission )

TTDriver~ OMG you weigh as much as my right leg!!! Well not quite, but is sure feels my legs are 100#s each at the very end of my run. Did you ever have any amount of fat on your body or were you always a totally fit & healthy runner? HR monitors are great, my DH would like to buy one for me so now that I am running it would be a good time to encourage him! I have heard that by jogging slower you burn more fat, so I must be burning it up b/c I am very slow! So if we are low carbing it, where is the "other" caloric burn coming from if not fat & not carbs?

WAIT, LET ME STOP ROLLING ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING................

Okay, now, I'll try and quit long enough to answer your question!! FAT? OMG, YES! I blossomed quite ugly into a middle-aged frump before starting Atkins in 2002!! And girl, I was the QUEEN OF THE COUCH POTATOES.........ugh, I am totally ashamed to admit it now, but believe it or not, I told DH back then that I was *TOO TIRED TO EXERCISE* .. which of course, led me right into FLABVILLE... Was it any wonder I had joint pain in my hips, knees and ankles back then .. WELL DUH!

Never ran a day in my life prior to November 1, 2003...now closing in on 3 SOLID YEARS! WHODDATHUNKTHAT?

My maintenance plan for the rest of my life is to run more than I eat! So far, so good!

Wednesday: 6.3 miles in 93 degrees.

Yay for me, twice in one week, will I make it 3 or 4?. Best 5 mile time in 2006, 50:24. I really wanted to break 50 minutes, but an untied shoelace and some slow spots cost me the time.

I'm a bit behind in my mileage from last year, by about 50 miles, but I'll make it up in July and August. Last June was a high mileage month for me, but I have another day left.

Girl, the heat totally ZAPS me too .. even living with hot weather for 9+ months out of the year .. its still tough and requires alot of conditioning to adjust. Some days, my body just WON'T GO in the heat .. and its a battle to the finish.

Today was pretty good .. I did my lunchhour run of 4.3 miles in 50 minutes flat. 11:38 pace .. which was okay, given the heat. I always figure its better to go slower and keep the HR under control than to have a STROKE out there!

So the end of June, exactly 6 months into my 1,500 mile goal and I'm at 791 miles completed....MORE THAN HALF WAY THERE with 6 months to go! There's hope I can actually do it!
