  • Starting out running - goals?

I've done a lot of walking since I started Atkins in October, even did a bit of cycling until my bike broke.

Now I'm enthusiastic to start running, as a good friend of mine who's the same height, weight and on atkins too, started running in early may and has since lost 22lbs. This seems like a good thing to me! But I asked her how much she runs, to give me an idea how much I need to do (because I have no idea!) and she said she runs 1.5 miles a day, 5 days a week. This doesn't seem much to me! I'm used to walking 6 miles a day, 3 miles to and from work, so running a quarter of this seems...not enough!

Has anyone got any advice for me? Is there an ideal starting distance for one? I dont want to just run and see how far I get because I need practise, so that won't get me anywhere!
