    Elliptical trainer vs treadmill...?

    Hey exercise gurus....

If you were going to get a new exercise machine...(which I am!)
Would you get an elliptical trainer or a treadmill? I can't decide....

Most of my friends say elliptical trainer because they have less
impact on your joints...(and I am 48 yoa ) but I kind of lean
    toward a treadmill.

    What would your choice be?

    Thanks for replies...

I'm an elliptical fan! No impact and it'll create some sexy looking toned legs that's for sure. You can get some arm action too on them. Depending on how tall you are, look at the stride lengths, I'm 5'10 and definitely need one with 18" stride. I can really get my heart rate going on it through resistance and speed.

Another Elliptical fan here. I enjoy working out on the EFX so much more than on a treadmill and the calorie burn is great compared with walking.

Both are as good as each other, really. So I suppose it all comes down to personal preference.

Eliptical is probably better as it works your arms and your legs.

I think an elliptical is a much better work out. I walked for miles every morning... but then I got an elliptical and saw and felt almost instantaneous results.... by walking I just use my legs and maybe my arms when no one is watching.... but with my elliptial I really work my entire body...

my legs... bum.....waist gets a real stretch.... I can see the difference already.. and my arms get a huge work out.... when my legs get tired I make my arms do the work... they are much more firm and defined now... I got it in March.... this year.... and love it.... with only 10 minutes I work up a sweat and raise my heart rate....

I try to do 15 minutes in the morning... and some more in the afternoon...

I like eliptical, but love my treadmill...so I'll jump on the other side - a good treadmill (with mutiple programs and good range in incline) is awesome and can really give you a variety in your workouts. You can switch out from a fast, flat walk, to hills at variety of inclines and speeds, to intense incline...I love it!
