Re: Cool Running for the Week of July 9, 2006

I've rejoined the Cool Runnings site again and am giving it another "go". Here's what I did today and hopefully this time I'll not have the problems I did before.

Warm up 5:00 minutes on the bike
Wamer up 5:minutes on the Treadmill 3.5 mph pace
Intervals 60 seconds of running @ 5mph pace and 90 seconds of walking @ 3.5 mph pace for 20 minutes.
Cool down 5 minutes of walking @ 3.7 mph pace.

Totals 2.2 miles in 30:00 minutes

Taking off tomorrow from running but will go to the gym and work out on the nautilus machines and start working the muscles a bit.

BTW now for the embarrassing stuff. In 2004 after the 20 + years in the trucker lifestyle I weighed in at about 315 pounds or so ( I stopped weighing after that mark). I was very probably pre-diabetic and hypertensive. I've got post operative knees and an Arthritic back. I started my fitness/exercise plan in 2004 and got injured and (like a dummy) got lazy and discouraged and stopped both programs. I then was at 258 pounds and was other than the injury, feeling pretty good. In the next six months I ballooned right back to 290. On 05/30/2006 I restarted Atkins . because I'm off the yard and inside the office (dispatch type/computer entry job) I am not losing like I would be while doing the really physical job of yard jockey. I'm down to 275 or -15 pounds from March 30. I guess I'll take the weight loss even being slow for now. I'm hoping the addition of the exercise will speed things up.

I've been lurking for a long time really too embarrassed of my failures in this. I'm doing my best now to get in the grove. It's really hard not to be motivated aroung the groups of people here. The successes of some of the people here on this site are really impressive. I hope someday to be amoungst you!

Well, I stopped and did week #1 day #2 today. I did screw up and wear my cheapo cross trainers instead of my regular "running only" shoes. Today kicked my butt hard and it made me feel really a bit more depressed. I warmed up for five minutes on the bike and started the warmup walk for another five and then started the 60/90 intervals. I really felt the drag today and had to run/jog slower than the first day. I didn't quit though. I ran/walked the two miles in 31:45 instead of Sunday's 2.02 in 30:00.. ugh! I'm a sweaty mess!
