  • Is this normal???

I have NO energy to workout when I first start induction. In fact I went to the gym like I normally do and after doing the elliptical for about 5 mins I almost passed out from low blood sugar. I got sick to my stomach and had to rush to the smoothie bar to get a smoothie with some carbs/sugar in it so I wouldn't pass out.

    Anyone else had this happen?

Should I just not workout until my body transforms to ketosis?

    Thanks!

No it's not normal. I think you should see your doctor if you are near passing out while doing an exercise you normally do without event. I have heard some real sugar addicts say they feel a bit sluggish for the first few days while they are detoxing and then energy pops in, but I have never heard of anyone reacting the way you described. Are you drinking a lot of water? Your symptoms may have been a lack of fluids rather than low blood sugar.

I don't think that refraining from eating bread and sugar is what caused such a physical reaction and you should speak with your doctor about what might be wrong.

This diet is supposed to stop the low sugar drops. I have hypoglocemia (low blood sugar) and I have not had any trouble with low sugar drops like I did when eating a lot of carbs.

Your body is getting used to not burning an easy fuel for energy. This is part of the Induction flu period, and it hits some people harder than others. Increasing your carb intake with the smoothie is only going to prolong this period as your body never starts to efficiently burn fat for fuel. If during the first few days of Induction, you are low on energy certainly don't push yourself to the brink. It will get better soon.

In the meantime, make sure you get yourself back into ketosis and glucose levels under control.

          Re: Is this normal???

yep you hit the wall and your body is working very hard to increase all the biological chemicals needed to transport those fatty acids, break them down and react them for use in the increased mitochondrias it is growing to make more ATP fuel units for you.

Are you taking your supplements? workout at a slower level as your body changes over and responds to your mucles call for more fuel after they have burnt off the stored fuel. You are going to be amazed at your energy level once you do make the corrections.

As Kent said Smoothies are not the way to go. drink some water and just be patient it will come.

            Re: Is this normal???

            Thanks for the replys.

I talked with my Dr last night and he said what happend to me was normal (my Dr is pro low carb diet for those of us especially with prediabetes and diabetes).

He said to take it easy for another day until my body makes the switch to ketosis and then I should be fine. He said during the 2-3 days of induction my body IS running very low in glucose still (or trying to) and my blood sugar wont stabilize until day 3 probably and that is why a lot of people feel shaky and like crap until their body makes the switch at around day 3 or 4. Makes sense, especially for those of us coming into Atkins with wacky blood sugars to begin with. He said after I get into ketosis I will be amazed at how stable my blood sugars are. I'm excited!

Well I noticed I said I worked out on the elliptical for 5 mins, my husband said it was more like 20 before I started feeling icky.
