  • Ten Pin Bowling.

Although I think my Amercian cousins refer to it as just "bowling". But does everyone or even anyone consider this to be excercise? LOL. If so, what an enjoyable way of doing excercise. I am playing 3 games of it tonight its a great game.

    Re: Ten Pin Bowling.

I'm not a big fan of 10 pin bowling, but when I lived in Michigan, my friends and I would sneak across the border to Canada and play 5 pin bowling. That was some fun stuff.

Whats the difference between 5 and 10 pin bowling? (apart from the number of pins)

        Re: Ten Pin Bowling.

5 pin bowling uses smaller balls and they don't have holes in them. I've never played 10-pin, but I do enjoy bowling for sure. It's a good workout for the legs and bum anyway, I think.

So there are smaller balls. Are there 3 or 2 used? I play skittles, which is 9 pins and 3 balls.

            Re: Ten Pin Bowling.

If I'm not mistaken, 5-pin is more like duckpin except for having only 5 pins - the pins and balls are smaller than ordinary bowling. As for exercise - hmmm. Each time you're up, you stand up, lift a weight (ball), swing it back then forward while taking a few steps, going into a lunge as you release it, stand up again and walk back to you seat. 21 or so reps per game... I'd say a definate yes, especially if you're a power bowler, throwing hooks and the like.

Thanks, I wasnt really asking if it was considered exercise because generally whenever you move you are exercising. I am just trying to make conversation and get people talking.

                Re: Ten Pin Bowling.

Thank you Rich. Well I learned something new today.....5-pin bowling is a totally Canadian sport!! Here I thought it was common everywhere. You have 10 frames per game and each person gets 3 throws of the ball. If you knock them all down the first time then you get a bunch of points and I think more points on your next turn. If you knock down all the pins on your second turn then I think it's the same thing (I dunno - they have auto scorekeepers nowadays...) otherwise you just add up all your points from your three throws and then each person takes a turn and whoever has the most points when all the frames have been played wins! Probably similar to 10-pin no??

I'm awful at bowling, but it's fun. The bowling alleys always have cruddy food and beer by the pitcher.

That is exactly what 10 pin bowling is like but we get two throws. Knock them all down its a strike, and if you know they all down with your two throws it is a spare. Interesting talk since I have never heard of 5 pin bowling. Does anyone here in the US play that?

Near our cottage there's a "cosmic" bowling alley. Everything is under black lights so everything glows in the dark. Even during the day. Then you can go outside and play a round of mini-golf (or mini-putt). Ah yes....that's my idea of a fun workout. Heeee.

I seen indoor putt like that when I was up in Tennesee last year. Never got to try it though.
