  • Fall/Winter runners question

What do you Fall/Winter runners wear for clothing: warmth/reflective/comfort?

Maybe I should describe Fall/Winters here in Idaho and maybe that will help. Cold (Winters drop below zero), dry, snow, and ice.

    I'm planning ahead...trying .

they have reflective tape you can "apply" to your outfit so don't let that be your decideing factor. dress in layers and make the layers light weight with a means to "tie them on you when you shed them as you run. don't forget your ears and hands too. I know LLBean has some cool very light weight long underwear for winter sports we got for my dad to wear golfing here. he would just wear them with his normal golfing outfits and not need a jacket like his golfing buddies had on so his swing wasn't effected.

I've got great LLBean undershirts...I always forget to check their sites. I usually get a catalog from them and Campmore. I wonder they got to? hmm..

      Thanks for the ideas.

I have a Nike running jacket that I LOVE!!! It is super light weight, but it keeps the rain out for up to two hours (it's not water proof, but it's very water resistant). It has reflective stripes on both the front and the back. Then I can put the appropriate amount of layers on under that, depending on how cool the day is.

I wear one of those headband type things instead of a whole hat, it works perfectly - even when I lived in Chicago and used to run along Lake Michigan, I always used that. And then thin lightweight gloves. The perfect winter running combo!

And to echo 2Big - layers are key! Make sure you can take things off if you get hot!

Thanks, Kelly. I found a couple of the headbands in the bottom of the winter basket I keep in the closet this weekend. Yea! I have a few shirts from Nike (and need to check out a few more of their clothes) that are made for runners when I use to walk in the early mornings of winter when it got down in the 20's...anything lower I refused to go out, but they didn't fit this past winter Thankfully...they're back in the top of the drawer (instead of the box of "lose into's"...lol). Thanks for the suggestions!

I have a flourescent running jacket that I wear so that I can be seen. But I tend to wear the same in the winter as I do in the summer when running. As I soon get "warmed up". I will run in shorts in the winter as I do in the summer. But only because I like my legs to feel free - does that make sense?

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

I think making sure you wear synthetic fabrics rather than cotton is very important..cotton holds sweat, and will become wet when you start to sweat and make you colder...synthetic fabrics 'wick' away sweat.

And like 2big says dress in layers. I have very thin microfibre long under wear and under shirt that is awsome, not too bulky but holds the heat in.

i also like headbands instead of a hat..I just buy cheap ones from the dollar store....

I'm not big into winter running outside..i usually end up in the gym on the treadmill..too scared of falling on the ice
