Hey you fitness gurus out there....any exercise ideas for those with arthritis besides swimming and buying really expensive equipment? I have some exercise equipment but it is not condusive to my current condition. With that said, the winter months are approaching and I am losing possible swim days. As I can not swim in the sunlight and have to wait until the sun goes down...it is beginning to get too cold for this and therefore, I am not exercising at the moment. Any ideas ?

Re: Exercise ideas for those with arthritis
I have terrible arthritis in one foot to the point of pain, and I do water arobics at the pool, I use to be self conscious about my weight until I went and saw my fellow students are also very large ladies.
Talk to your doctor. There is an exercise developed for arthiritcs called PACE I think. Also the Walk Away the Pounds Tape is good.

walk away the pounds it a little too bouncey for me. PACE is a great program and stands for People with Arthritis Can Exercise and folk do them sitting or standing if they can. we have PACE classes in our local Church. check with your local hospital or physical therapy center to see.
calanetics is another program you can do.by the book atkinseer

Re: Exercise ideas for those with arthritis
Wow, I never heard of PACE. I have heard of Walk Away the Pounds and have watch the video...I too feel it is a bit too much motion for me. I have arthritis everywhere...in every joint, so I need something that takes pressure off of my joints. Swimming has been great for me, but I have had to swim at night only...by then, I am tired and have had time to wind down from work and only want to rest instead of exercise. I'll check into PACE for starters and go from there. Thanks.

Re: Exercise ideas for those with arthritis
No, not yet...got side tracked with some other projects (art class at local college). I have been walking on my treadmill for indoor activity. My arthritis has lightened up lately, so standing and walking haven't been so touch lately. I may keep this up for a while just to develop a habit and consistency.
