    Re: Childhood and Exercise

What a great post. Wonderful trip down memory lane!!

We lived in the country so we walked or rode our bikes everywhere. Kickball, frisbee, softball games, basketball games, swimming in the brook, building dams in the brook, exploring the woods, hiking in the woods. In the winter we went cross country skiing, my brothers went downhill (I was too much of a chicken!), ice skating, sliding, shoveling the snow from the driveway ( my dad had a shovel for all of us!). We had to walk to our bus stop & of course walk back home. We also did tons of camping in the summer. We didn't have a fancy camper...a good old fashion tent!

I tried to do the same with my kids. When Nintendo came out I was named the mean mom by the kids, their friends & even some of my friends....I would not allow a Nintendo in my house!!! I wasn't going to have them inside playing that stupid game...they were going to be outside riding bikes & playing! They are grown ups now & we laugh about the mean mom title I use to wear with pride!!!

      Re: Childhood and Exercise

I rode my bike constantly. I rode it to school every morning and then in the afternoons my friends and I would go all over the neighborhood on our bikes. Of course when we got old enough to cross the "busy" street on our own, we would ride our bikes to McDonald's! lol Not so healthy.

I also loved to jump on our trampoline. We would put the sprinkler underneath it on hot summer days and jump for hours.

I also rode my bike everywhere and spent hours roller skating around the block over and over again. Back in those days the wheels were metal! That must've been noisy! (that's when we lived in the city for a year)
I also rode horses with my brothers, swam, fished, caught crawdads and polywogs, and giant frogs... built forts in the groves, and played outdoors from sun up to sun down! My mom never really knew where we were! ha! Those were the days huh?
I also remember my mom would drop us all off at the beach for the day... me and my brothers with a dollar for the snack bar. We would surf, body surf, and play all day long and noone ever bothered us. It was fun and carefree. good times, good times.
