  • Has Anyone Tried the Gazelle Trainer?

When I worked out at the Campus Recreation Center at my University I always loved using the elliptical machine. I would like to buy one for home but they are so expensive.

Does anyone own or ever use a Tony Little Gazelle Trainer? It's similar to an elliptical. Just wanted to get some feedback before I spend the money.

        Liz:

I was also going to purchase one, the reviews on HSN seem to mostly very positive. I had knee surgery so it is very hard for me to exercise. I really miss my walking. If you get one let me know how you like it and if you think it is hard on the knees. Thanks

Awww...Christine...Are you serious? You just bought one? Awesome! Definitely try it out and let me know how you like it. I know he has several models. There is one at WM for $99 bucks, but then he has a more expensive model that sells for around $300!

I would love to get the $99 one but I'm scared to try it because the weight limit on it is like 200 lbs. I think the more expensive model has a weight limit of 350 (which would be me!)

Re: Has Anyone Tried the Gazelle Trainer?

Okay guys, I got it together and used it this morning!

Holy cow you guys, I LOVE THIS MACHINE!!!

It took me about two hours to get it put together this morning (Mostly because I was a moron and somehow missed a step) but I love love love love love this machine. I was only on it for 7 minutes because I wanted to try it without hurting myself (it's been a little while since I did anything so physical) and it was great! I did a little over a quarter of a mile, burned 27 calories and went approximately 2.2 miles per hour. Not olympics worthy by any means, but I was simply amazed at how easy it was! I was a little out of breath, but it was smooooooooth on my joints and once I started getting used to the flow I fell in to a nice comfortable pace. It was lovely!

Liz, the one I got was the Edge. It's the $85.00 one from Walmart. Unfortunately it does have a 250 pound weight limit. I was kind of hoping that my hubby could use it too, but it'll be a no-go. They didn't have the bigger one at my store. I would seriously contemplate putting one on layaway or something if you get the chance though...it's really nice.

                Thanks for the update Christine...

I may shop around on-line and see if I can find the bigger one (with a higher weight limit) at a good price. I would have to lose 100 pounds before I could use the Wal-Mart one. : (

Thanks for the info Christine! I really want one now! I may ask for one for Christmas...unless I decide to buy it sooner. We're trying to save up money for Christmas, so it may have to go on my X-mas list

Re: Has Anyone Tried the Gazelle Trainer?

I just finished my first mile on it...so much fun!!!

I'm sorry you can't use the Walmart one Liz. If you can find a good deal on the better ones online, I would definitely get it! Yes, I feel worked out, but not horrible like I do with most other things. I'm in love with this thing!

I was originally going to wait until Christmas and talk hubby in to getting me a treadmill, but my exercise has been suffering and well...I'm impatient lol.

I would highly suggest wearing shoes when you use it though. It says to in the instructions, but since I go barefoot all the time I figured "Hey? What's the big deal?" Uh...the big deal is that you really get moving and the little bumpy bumpy tread hurts your feet!

Re: Has Anyone Tried the Gazelle Trainer?

There are a bunch of different versions... the ones on TV, the ones in Walmart, and some ones in the Sports Authority. I got one that is a solid frame and has the adjustable resistence air pressure on the steps. While I liked it and still use it occasionally, here are my words of warning:

                        1) The fold-up ones are fairly flimsy. I tried one and felt like I was going to fall off

                        2) The components are cheap (at least mine are). The meter on mine died so I have no idea what the calories are, etc; Also the cup holder snapped off, the backs of the footpads broke off, and I've had to lube the resistence pumps several times.

                        3) After 4-5 times through the god awful videos you WILL hate Tony Little.

Hey Liz, I am an elliptical machine fanatic too. I was not impressed with the gazelles that I have tried. Also, you can buy an elliptical at WalMart for around the same cost as the gazelle. Mine was 109.00 and I bought the cheapie elliptical and it works fine. You can buy the nicer bigger one for about 250.00.

Thanks for the tips Jamie and Paul... I've seen the ellipticals at WM before but I wasn't sure how good they were. I'll have to look into the weight limits on those. That would be great if I could get one for around 100 bucks!

Oh and Paul, I already do hate Tony Little! He's a bit annoying. I'd rather watch Richard Simmons any day of the week! LOL
