  • Knee injury

    Hi

Has anyone ever pulled the rear of their knee?

I seemed to have strained/pulled the rear of my knee after excersing on Saturday. I'd done an hour on the treadmill and then an hour on the cross-trainer, so I think I've just over worked it!

It only hurts when my leg is out straight. I went to the gym yesterday and just did an hour on the cross-trainer as I think it could have been the treadmill that did it - should I rest for a couple of days to see if the pain eases or just carry on with an hours exercise?

    thanks

    Re: Knee injury

I have hurt the front of my knee and the side of my knee, but never the back. You have my sympathy though Jane, as I realise just how painful a knee injury can be. Have you use an ice pack (or a bag of frozen peas) on it?

Oh and yes, you should definitely rest it. There is no point in aggrivating it further.

Thanks Rich - I might just go to the gym tonight and do upper-body and tummy! Do you think I'll be ok swimming? I'll just use one leg! lol!

Frozen Peas - they're not induction friendly! hehe! I'll get some on the way home tonight!

          Re: Knee injury

Swimming is semi ok as the water is a cushioning thing. However, I think I would suggest that you rest your legs completely until its better. Go to the gym by all means, but do upper body weights and ab work.

Don't do anything with your lower body until its completely healed.

Hi, yes I do, before and after, plus I normally have a swim, jacuzzi and sauna after - but I think I did it on the treadmill walking uphill!! I was really pushing hard - walking really really fast!! my own fault, but I was feeling full of energy and just went for it! lol!

                    Re: Knee injury

so did you injure the terndons from your hamstings or calf muscles that cross the back of the knee or did you actually injury the knee ligament?

                        Re: Knee injury

those are the connection for the calf muscle on the outer part and the connectors for the thigh muscle on the inner area if that helps you any. walking up hill can stretch either or both of those. I know doing my HIIT witht he incline I was advised to stretch and stretch again. watch the down stroke on your eliptical too if you do it flat footed into the going up part that can stretch it too.
