  • Cool Running for the Week of October 8, 2006

Good morning walkers, joggers & runners,

Back from the Disney 10k late yesterday. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tired after getting up at 3:45 am!

Weather was hot and humid (so what else isn't news) .. 70 degrees and 87% humidity at the start. 2,500 runners. I finished in 1:06 which was slower than I wanted, but considering we ran butt-2-butt for the first mile, I know that had an effect on everyone's finish times. The crowd didn't start to thin out until mile 2, and even after that, there were parts of the route that were limited to a sidewalk's width which is so frustrating when you're trying for speed!

Oh well, what's done is done, and it was an enjoyable time at any rate!

Congrats on your run Betty, hard luck about your time but I appreciate what you are saying about the crowded bit. Not easy to get a pb.

My race was a non entity really. I wasnt feeling that good at all. My foot was hurting, which I put down to my gout. The run was either a 5 k or a 10 k. the 10k was two laps of the 5k course. I originally put myself down for the 10 but my foot was so painful I decided to call it a day after the first lap. I struggled even with the 5k (29:55) I can normally do 5 so much quicker than that.

But I suppose people do have off days.

All steam ahead for the half marathoin I am entered for next Sunday. I hope I heal by then.

So sorry to hear about your foot, Rich!! That really sucks, but I'm glad you had the smarts to call it quits instead of running through the pain. YOU MADE THE RIGHT DECISION and I am sure you will be glad you did it when you do your 1/2er! There will always be another 10k out there ... but 1/2ers are few and far between.

I am feeling a bit stiff today, so I think I will take today off from running. Much as I love to run, it makes no sense to disregard what your body is telling you to do ...

      1. REST
      2. RECOVER
      3. RESUME!

I have a 5k planned for Saturday, so this will be a good recovery week.

Rich, Sorry to hear that your foot is giving you problems again. Smart to call it quits though. Wish you a speedy recovery.

Betty, It can be frustrating having to run a race in a crowd and hot as well. Good luck this coming weekend.

Short run for today 2.5 miles.

Hey having a good day today and I got a run in.

The weights I used to lift are sooo heavy I could barely do it makes me sooo upset.

This is what I did though.

Ran a 30 minute Hit session 5 minutes warm up 5 minutes cool down with running 5-7mph in 30 second intervals did 5 intervals going up and down from there.

              I lifted Chest and Triceps
              Bench press
              3 sets 60 lbs 12,10,10 reps
              Tricep Ext
              3 sets 25 lbs 12,10,10
              Dumbell Flies
              3 sets 20 lbs 12,10,9
              Tricep press
              3 sets 60lbs 12,12,12
              Overhead Chest Ext
              3 sets 25lbs 12,12,12

I got er done and I am sooo PROUD!! Cause it was sooo HARD!
