  • Cool(er) Running for the week of October 15

Yes, it appears that even I am enjoying cooler weather these days. Although they're saying upper 80s by the end of the week ... ugh. Shouldn't last long though.

So how are my post-half-marathon friends this fine day??? RESTING UP, I HOPE!

As for me, I'm back on track this week, going for 32 miles .. 6.3 in this morning. Its time for Betty to GET SERIOUS about building foundational mileage ... the marathon is less than 11 weeks away! And there is a 10k and a half marathon before that!

Have a great day everyone and a positively fabulous running week!

I'm doing ok thanks Betty, resting today but had a nice leasurely 10 minute cycle to work. My legs are feel;ing a lot better than they did the last time I did a halfer, and to be honest I am still feeling on top of the world! that magic 22 minutes is amazing. lol

I don't check in with you guys regularly....I've got a ga-jillion and 1 places to report my exercise.

However, I did 4.7 miles today (according to gmaps pedometer) in 1 hour. W00T!
Betty, it was VERY humid tonight. I hope it goes back to what it was like over the weekend really soon.

I have a question for you guys...I hope you don't mind if I post it here. When I'm running, if I do a slow jog that doesn't get my heart rate or breathing up as quickly...it strains the muscles in my calves and the front of my legs...almost to the point of cramping. But, if I pick my knees up a little higher, run a little faster its more of an exertion on my heart/lungs but doesn't hurt my legs as much. The problem with that is I can only do about 1 minute running and then I have to walk to recover for 1 minute.

            HI Guys,

Gosh it has been crazy with work lately. 5 miles today.

Joy, walk/run is a great way to build up. Taking it slowly also lets you enjoy it, rather than it being a stressful event. Then comes my favourite part acheiving the "runner's high". This is the thing that gets me out there 4-5 times a week and on Atkins it is even better!!! It took a number of months this time before I could run a full km without walking and I even had the experience of running for 15 years previously before my accident, so you are doing great!!

WTG, JOY! Rosecat is right about taking things slow. No harm in walk/running; in fact, its great cardio too!! Just don't try and do too much too quick. That's the hardest thing to do IMO .. I'm a person who wants to run a marathon right off the mark! NO NO NO ... so that's why its taken me 3 years to get to where I am now .. anyhow, keep it up .. just persist gradually and you should be fine.

Oh girl, its waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too humid! They say a cool down next week and I hope it LASTS!

Great job, Rosecat! I know what you mean about work being crazy...mine is stressing me TOTALLY OUT! Which means I gotta keep up with my running; its my PROZAC!

just a very very gentle 2 mile run on the treadmill last night as sort of recovery from my halfer last sunday and as preperation of my 10 mile race on Sunday coming.

                21 minutes!!!!! very gentle indeed.

                  HI Guys,

It appears everyone is doing great! Work is keeping me out and about and off the boards.

2.5 miles yesterday and 2.5 this morning.

Betty, you are right running is my Prozac too. I find it keeps me from getting into a funk. One of the reasons I took it up again!!

Good luck Rich with your race!
