Well, I don't have an iPod of any sort, so I rely on the gym to provide my tunes. The workout music they have at my gym is always on some 70s or 80s Classic Rock station on Sirius. So I'm always sweating to ACDC, Led Zepplen, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, Metallica, etc. It's pretty fierce. Pour some sugar on me, indeed!

I wish they'd put some booty music on. A little urban flava. But ah, I don't think that would be popular with the predominantly white, rural, rancher/businessmen demographic that basically makes up the fitness centerr

Re: What music is on your exercise ipod?

I have some standard music that I keep on there all the time:

A whole bunch of songs by Led zeppelin, bon jovi, the beatles/paul mccartney/john lennon, rolling stones, bob seger, jackson browne, rod stewart, def leppard, toby keith, dwight yokam

then I add new songs, not necessarily songs that are new now..usually i hear them on the radio, realize they'd be good to exerise too, and download them. right now some of them are

      Sexy back - justin timberlake
check up on it - beyonce
touch te sky - kanye west
we belong together - mariah carey
      flap your wings - nelly
everybody loves somebody - dean martin
come fly with me - frank sinatra
not ready to make nice - dixie chicks
long time gone - dixie chicks
let go of the line - max webster
flowers on the wall - everly bros
the lord knows i'm drinking - johnnie russell
      my immortal - evanessence
god is a dj - pink
      toxic - brittny spears

I try to keep it pretty varied...I'm actually going to update the list tonight but haven't decided what to put on there yet..i'm getting sick of some of these songs so i'll update quite a few of them.

Sorry my iPod (actually Rio Forge) has audio books right now. I just got finished with the 28 hour tome of the last book of Stephen King's Dark Tower. My book now is the latest Nelson DeMille book. I just find I tire of music too quick, and can get my mind off the pain or drudgery of the miles slowly passing by better with a book than music. It might not be the best for a sprint for a marathon or long run it works for me.

lol Betty, i absolutely love some of the disney and Warner Bros soundtracks. i was a dork growing up lol cause i loved movie sound tracks, one of my favorite songs is part of this world from the little mermaid lol.

oHH Kent no need to be sorry, glad you posted, my mom listens to books also when she is working out, she takes one tape (yes tapes lol) and listens to one as she exercises doesn't stop until the tape does. Maybe you can let us know reviews on the books on tape so those who do books on tape (i've done it a couple times when i really am into the book).

So yes, in otherwords lol what do you listen to as you are working out, maybe the thread should read.

I have only just ordered an Ipod so will have a new toy to play with very soon. Its going to have room for approx 240 songs and will intend to stick a whole load of different stuff on it and use the shuffle mode.

The best part of the audio book listening is if you really get into the story it drives you back to exercising the next day or later. I only listen to the story while working out, so if I get engrossed in the story, I can either work out longer or come back the next day. Sometimes that's all I need to convince myself not to take an "off" day. I don't think music for my myself would hold that same draw.

The best deal is of course loaning them from the library, but audible.com has a pretty good deal if you actually want to own them -- $22 a month for 2 audio books. I was on the program for 2 months, got 7 books (3 free) and paid like $6 a book. I am still working my way back through those 7 books.

The best ones so far has been:
                Lincoln Lawyer, by Michael Connelley
One of the Prey series, by John Sandford

Wow interesting, audio books had never occurred to me! How much room do you need on your mp3 player for them Kent? Mines only 512 mg (seems small compared to 4gig ipods LOL). Or can you d/l them in parts?

Re: What music is on your exercise ipod?

Audible breaks them up into typically 50 meg sections, which are about 7 hours worth of material. My Rio Forge holds 512 as well, and could hold an entire book, but the stupid thing will not list more than one chapter at a time. Here is the site to check if your device is "Audible ready":
Try Audible free for 30 days. Discover best-selling audiobooks, free podcasts, and exclusive Audible Originals. Listen offline with the Audible app.

Ripping CD's obviously would put them into MP3 format, and then it depends at what quality you rip at. 96kbps should be sufficient for spoken word, so you should easily be able to get 10 CD audio book on your device.

I like to listen to reggaeton, salsa, and dance music while working out because its upbeat and makes me want to move.
