  • Heartrate fatburning help please

Maybe 2big or someone will know how to fix this: My target fatburning heartrate is between 140 and 162. My Max is 185. However doing the devil machine, i was consistently between 169-175 it bumped up to 178 a couple times but was able to bring it back down by breathing deeply, but i couldn't get my heartrate down between 140-162 because everytime i slowed down the bloody machine would pause because it thought i was stopping. So any idea how to get my heartrate down without slowing down because i am going so slow the machine is thinking i am stopping. Is it just my high weight and i am just going to have to deal until i lose more? i would hate to put in so much time in exercising and not get the benefit of fatburning. And i could do the bike or the treadmill (which i really don't like as it doesn't burn as many cals as the devil machine). i really want to be fat burning. Could it be i just have a higher fat burning level that the calculater doesn't take into consideration?

    Any advice, suggestions, idea??

Sher, I don't know the exact science of this, I'm sure 2big would be able to help.

However, I know what you mean. When I first started my heart rate would always be high too. AND I could only do my elliptical machine for like 5 minutes at a time. It was a good thing that I didn't have a good Heart Rate monitor at that time. I would just do what I coud and then stop and rest. You'll be surprised at how quickly you build up endurance in your muscles your heart and your lung capacity.

it is cause of your poor cardiovacular health. since you are at a gym try using a treadmill as you can slow to a slaw walk as you recover. it should take you about 2 weeks of everyday cardio to improve to the point you can get back on your eliptical.

you nust be awful young to have those heart rates. did you do the 220 minus your age times .6 for your fatburning heart rate? and your max should be the 220 minus your age times .8 But in reality there are no max heart rates since everybody is slightly different and if you can talk and do your workout then that is an okay heart rate for you to be working at.

        Re: Heartrate fatburning help please

I've found that If I keep between 140-150 I can keep my breath and not feel too worn down at the end of my exercise. Sometimes I'll allow myself to creep up to 154 but believe me if I stay there that long than my endurance starts to fall... dramatically. Btw, my fatburning heart rate is ibetween 121 and 161

          Re: Heartrate fatburning help please

hey 2big thanks. I got my max and fatburning heartrate from some online calculator. O thought about going to the treadmill, but i hate the treadmill lol. Worse than the devil machine. I have noticed this week that as i get use to it, my heart rate isn't going as high. Its still higher than the fat burning zone, but its not maxing out anymore. i will think about this and maybe i will try the treadmill, but i know it sounds weird but i actually get more tired on the treadmill than i do on the devil machine. When i am done with the devil machine, i am tired but its a good tired, and then i go do the bike.

          Thanks for your advice!!

Are you using the HRM on the treadmill itself? I've unfortunately found them to be very inaccurate (well at my gym anyway). I bought my own Polar HRM, it has a watch like wristband and a chest strap and is extremely accurate. it' was only about $50 cdn. I got the really basic model..there are differnt ones with different features. I'd recommend investing in one if you are using the gyms HRM's.

(will ignore you do like my beloved exercise machine the treadmill)

glad you are getting that training effect gooing. in about a month you will look back at this and laugh about how slow you were going and how high your heart rate was.

remeber as you get in better shape you either got to go faster or increase the rsistance to maintain those heart rates.

I was flying along at 7.5MPH on a flat treadmill and 5.0MPH as the recovery fat burning rate in NOv of 03 and the fellow on the treadmill next to me ask what i was doing. I excitedly told him about HIIT and he strenly told me I wasn't cause I was nose breathing the whole way. needless to say the inclinw wehnt up the very next spped up too and my spped slowed.

                Nose breathing?

I know a runner who uses a breathing exercise thingy in order to train his breathing muscles so he can nose breath while running. He says it's more efficient to nose breath than it is to mouth breath.

Anyhow, I have a wrist watch thing that measures heart rate because I do outdoor walking and biking. It was about $30 at Walmart.

not2late in HIIT you are supposed to be at the point of exhasting your oxygen called VO2 max which can be translated to reaching our max heart rate full spped for about 1 min. that was what we were talking about.

it's interesting my winsor pilates dvd also says you should also breathe both in and out through the nose, but every yoga tape i have says in the the nose out through the mouth. interesting.

                      oh boyu 2BIG brain leak

nose breathing warms the air and cleans it before it gets to your lungs hwere as mouth breathing doesn't so from a health point of view in the nose would be preferred.

we expand the intercostal and diaphram muscles to casue air to rush in and then relax them to get it out. with your lips pursed you can alter the pressure and cause more air to exit the lung since we breath on a negative pressure issue and lots of stall air stays in the lung each time.

                        Re: Heartrate fatburning help please

grins at 2big, no insult to your beloved machine - its just HARDER to me lol than the devil machine lol. I think much of it is i am a stroller lol and that machine makes me WALK. snifs how rude. grins.

Yes as each day goes along i am finding it much much easier and i am going faster (the machine no longer pauses lol on me because i am going too slow!) i am burning about 300 calories for 25 minutes. And as i said, my heartrate keeps going down, pretty soon i will be able to slow down to control my heartrate. I am adding 5 minutes every week. Once i hit 30 or 45, i haven't decided yet i am going to start the intervals that are on the machine, and then once i am okay with that i will begin the HIIT. I would say probably the beginning of December i will be starting the HIIT.

Right now, i breath through my nose and i am a little winded but it usually goes away as soon as i drink something. My problem is if i breath through my mouth and i do so hard, i usually end up in an asthma attack lol, which would really put a damper on my enthusiasm lol.

i am not sure how accurate the machines are but all of them (i've used about 6 different once) tend to show the same heartrates for me. Maybe i will ask for a HRM for christmas.

Thanks for the posts everyone! I will let everone know how its going as i continue.
