  • Cool Running For The Week Of November 12, 2006

Well since I'm on a roll, I'll start the thread for this week.

Five miler this morning again, a touch slower than yesterday but I can't get faster every day, right? November is now my best mileage month for '06, now let's see if I can make a run at my best month ever which was June of '05 at 74.3 only 44.4 to go and I'll do it. Just snuck my run in this morning during a lull in the rain, it poured stopped for about 90 minutes, I snuck in my run, and then it poured again. But I got it done, that's the most important part.

We had our first big snow this week, so it has been a bit of the challenge. The first part of the week we had unseasonably warm (near 80s), which my unacclimated body rebelled against on my run. I ran 3 miles twice this past week, and 2-4 mile runs. I plan on another 4 or 5 mile run in a hour after the cheesecake is done cooking.

My 7-mile cross country race is less than a week away, so that should be fun. I will probably end up doing 9-10 miles as after I finish my race, I am planning on running back to meet up with Laura to run with her to the finish as well. Only problem, the last 2 miles features the "Big Hill." It'll be real fun to do that twice in one day.

Great job, Jim, Rich & Kent! Rosecat you are doing fabulous too!!

I applaud you guys who have to run in the cold weather .. I, for one, turn into a pumpkin when the mercury drops below 60!

Wow, Kent, snow already in Des Moines? That's a bit early isn't it? I don't think my old hometown (Omaha) has seen any yet .. but probably won't be long! I remember we used to see a few flakes right around Thanksgiving weekend most years. I don't miss snow! Hope your CCR is a fun one! I know you'll do great!

Monday, 11/13: 6.3 miles in before work. Three weeks from Sunday is the halfer and 7 weeks from Sunday is the marathon! Gotta keep uppin' the miles!

Rest day today, I probably need one. Got up too late and DW is working this evening. Then runs for the rest of the week. Sometimes a rest day gives me a nice scale drop too. Maybe the muscles shed some water with some extra healing time.

No "maybe" about it, Jim. The muscles will let go of the water as they repair themselves. That's why rest is so important. (preaching to myself, here)...

              ENJOY YOUR REST DAY!

It is a bit early to have a blizzard like that (3-4" in a hour or so). Nothing like Denver or Buffalo, but it was enough to mess with your head. A few 55 degree days burned it off, and has made for great running weather since then. I did 4 miles on Sunday, 4 miles treadmill run and half mile of hills
on Monday, and 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer for my rest day today. The weather reports are looking good for this weekend -- little or no moisture the rest of the week and highs in the 40s and 50s.

Here's a photo from last year:

That was the "shallow" stream we had to cross too.

5 miles in this morning, 3rd best time of '06 and best since July 1st, 51:26, 50 minutes will fall by 12/1. Had another forced rest day yesterday (pouring out), but hopefully runs every day for the rest of the week.

Wow, Kent, that's quite a photo! I don't know if I'd have courage enough to cross that!

Jim, you're doing fantastic! Glad you had a rest day .. rest is a good thing!

As for me, I did 6.3 miles this morning before work. Good thing, because it was 58 degrees at 6:45 this morning, but its warming up fast. Supposed to be windy and more humid this afternoon with an approaching cold front. So the morning was definitely the right time to run.
