  • What to do?

Hey all! Im new to Atkins and havent really exercised since hs which was about 1 yr ago and honestly I have no idea where to begin. I live in an apartment on the 3rd floor so i get to hit the stairs when i leave/come home/or drag groceries up but thats about it. Im really shy and pretty much broke so a gym membership is probably a no go for me right now, but anything I can do at home or work (im a receptionist and I sit on my butt all day) would be realllllllllly helpful!

Hi Natassia...again. LOL I posted in one of your other threads.

    Exercise.

It's a VERY important part of your Atkins plan.

You can do a lot of things. Dr. Atkins wants us to incorporate both cardiovascular exercise (anything that gets your heart rate up) and resistance training (strength, lifting, toning, etc.)

There are lots and lots of free exercises. You don't need any fancy equipment or a gym membership. Since you've got stairs, use those. Get out and walk, jog, run, whatever floats your boat. If you don't want to be outside, get inside your apartment, crank up the radio and dance. Just get your heart rate up, get sweating.

As for strength training, you can pick exercises from www.shapefit.com and use canned food for dumbells. Use a broomstick with some socks full of sand, rocks, marbles, etc tied on each end as a barbell. Do ab work now...and when the cardio melts all that fat off, you'll have a six pack underneath!

There are all sorts of challenges going on...stair climbing challenge and situp challenge too. Check out the exercise forums.

Whenever you do strength training, you want to make sure that you give a day of rest in between.

I exercise 5-6 days a week, alternating cardio and strength training. One day cardio, next day I lift weights, then cardio, then weights etc.
