  • To rest or not to rest...that is my question.

Ok, so each morning I'm doing stretches, flexibility stuff, pushups, crunchers, a few other things. About a half hour workout, but no weights involved. I'm really sore. This isn't a major concern to me, in fact I would say its a "good hurt" if that makes sense. However, my husband is wickedly concerned that I'm overdoing because everytime the boys come and jump on me I wince. He told me tonight I need to rest for a few days if I'm that sore. I told him as far as I knew I didn't need to rest the muscles unless I was using weights. He said I'm gonna wreck if I don't give myself a day to rest. I told him he was being lame.

So...um...who is right? Should I be resting if I'm really sore, or is it ok to keep going (obviously not pushing myself past the point of total discomfort, but you know what I mean.)

Muscle soreness is normal if you haven't been working out much previously. The key is, is it just soreness or is it pain from injury? My guess is, its just the temporary soreness and should pass within a few days. I would NOT give up the working out .. just take it a little slower until the soreness subsides .. then ramp it up again!

Congratulations getting started and keeping up with it! I would also consider starting some kind of cardiovascular workout (i.e. walking, power walking or jogging are great ways to get that heartrate up!)

      You're doing great!

Thanks for answering. That's what I figured, but I thought I would ask.

I would love to add some cardio something, but I've been banned from walking in negative temperatures. Don't have a treadmill (yet...we're working on that)...don't even have stairs in the house to climb! I'm looking at some cardio tapes, because I know I really need to add that to my workout. Thanks for the answer.
