  • Has anyone here tried spinning?

    Hi everyone,

I was thinking about taking spinning classes, but was mainly concerned about two things. First, am I too overweight for spinning, and second, would it help me more to burn fat than running?

If anyone else here have tried it with great results or not, please share your story.

Thanks again to this wonderful board.

Re: Has anyone here tried spinning?

I have done spinning (although I know of it as RPM).

Its a good idea, as stationary bike riding can get boring, however, if you have an instructor and a number of other people all doing it at once its good fun.

Its not as good for fat burning as running, but its always a good idea to vary your exercise routines as it stops boredom from setting in. IMHO I think you should give it a go.

Try it twice (a week or so a part) though, as when you finish it the first time you will feel almost dead, but it gets easier.

    I hope this helps

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

I've taken spinning classes--they're a great workout! I don't think you're too overweight...spinning uses resistance levels to change the workout, and each biker is in control of their own bike--meaning you control the easiness or difficulty of your workout. This lets you push yourself without killing yourself.

As far as burning fat, that has to do with your heartrate, the length of time you remain in that fat burning zone, and how long you exercise for. For me, Spinning was more difficult than running simply because I hadn't done it as much--it was a better challenge. Hopefully someone will be along to help you out with the fatburning question...

I would say, go ahead, try the spinning class. If you're worried, speak with the instructor ahead of time and voice your concerns.

Ok, I don't mean to sound dumb, BUT what's spinning?
I mean, other than spinning around in a circle, or the the type of spinning they do here which is spinning wool into yarn.

Spinning is a class on a stationary bike, but not those ones at the gym with programs or quickstart buttons...you use bikes like a Schwinn Nautilus. Instead of changing gears, there's a resistance knob on the support column that lets you lessen or increase your resistance. You use different stances for different resistances or for climbing hills, etc. It is seriously, one of the toughest workouts I've ever had.

                Thanks.
I've never heard of the term.
I remember using a bike a long time ago that had a tension knob.

So glad someone asked what it was!!! Lol. I too had no idea and was thinking maybe hula hoops... though it's those that spin, rather than the exerciser!
