  • Exercise and Progress?

For the past three weeks, I've been stuck on the scale. However, my inches are going down? Why does this happen, and what does it mean? Is this a sign of progress? Are the inches that I'm losing- fat? water? I'm just really confused about this. I guess I'm so trained that scale is the *onlY* sign of where you're at, but i know that's not true.

    You're right. It's not true.

I don't give a rip if I weigh 400lbs so long as my size 8's fit.

The inches you're losing are most certainly your fat cells shrinking. With exercise - especially if it's new to you or you've switched up your routine, thereby placing new demands on your muscles, your muscles will hyperhydrate themselves to protect themselves from what they view as an emergency demand. Once your body figures out that the exercise is going to be standard operating procedure, they'll let the water go and you'll see a whoosh on the scales.

Pants don't have a weight requirement in them. They have a waist size requirement!

    To further illustrate the point:

5lbs of muscle takes up a heckuva lot less room than 5lbs of fat - and it's SO much prettier to look at!

Here's something else you should read:

Congrats on your progress so far!

Love the link to "Why scales Lie". What a great read. I think I should print it and send it to every family member of mine who is scale obsessed. Thanks for the information!
