Santa was VERY good to me and my Atkins WOL this year. I got an iPod Nano, a new pair of the Nike Air Max 180 running shoes that are iPod ready, and I got the Nike + iPod to "tune my run"
I am in love with this little gadget. If you have a nano and run or walk, the $29 it costs to buy the thingie that plugs into the nano and goes in your shoe is well worth it. I've read online how to use the gadget without actually buying the ready-made shoes.
Anyway, you get to set your workout each time. You can set a "goal" for that workout in terms of time, distance, or calories burned. It keeps track of all 3, but you can choose how it "counts down" to you in terms of one of the three choices. Tonight, for instance, I said I wanted to workout until I'd burned 600 calories. I told it which playlist to use and then you choose start workout....and you start your workout. In 50 calorie increment, it comes on and tells you how many calories you've burned. When you get halfway, it tells you that you are half way, and then counts down saying "you have 200 calories left to go". When you are done it congratulates you. In the meantime, it is playing from the playlist (or shuffle) that you choose. If you work out longer than your goal, it continues to keep track until you push "End workout".
At the end of your workout it gives you a summary on the screen (and verbally on your earphones) of calories burned, distance, time, and miles per minute. It will show you your personal best and totals of your workout for the week and month. It keeps track of the date, starting time for each workout as well.
When you are done with your workout, you connect the ipod to your computer and it automatically downloads your workout into a free account you set up with Nike's website.
In their website, you can see all your workouts, compare them, and see graphs. You can set goals for yourself and join or create challenges with other Nikeplus users.
It's really cool. I'm working on getting some screen shots of what the website looks like.
