  • Cool Running for the week of Dec 31, 2006

Well here it is, runners, the first week of the new year, and you know what that means for me: MARATHON WEEK!

Bigtime taper this week .. I plan only 5-6 miles today and another 3 on Thursday which will be it until the BIG DAY.

The weather forecast for Sunday is low of 60, high of 78 .. ugh, that's gonna be HOT HOT HOT !! Much different than last year when it was 39 degrees at the start! I hope they have plenty of paramedics standing by for those folks who aren't accustomed to Florida wintertime running! I'll have plenty of electrolyte replacement drinks tucked in my fuel belt, so I should be okay.........hopefully!

    Happy running this week!

Wooo! Good luck with the prep and with the marathon. I have to say I'm so jealous of your weather, it sounds like a dream to me. Here in Oregon our highs for the week are about 47 and our lows are 31.

Thursday 1/4: 5.2 mile taper run before work. This is my last run before Disney!

2 days til the big day! Some parting thoughts for marathoners:

AT MILE 20 I THOUGHT I WAS DEAD
AT MILE 22 I WISHED I WERE DEAD
AT MILE 24 I KNEW I WAS DEAD
AT MILE 26.2 I KNEW I HAD BECOME TOO TOUGH TO KILL.

PAIN IS TEMPORARY; PRIDE LASTS FOREVER.

PASS THE WEAK, HURDLE THE DEAD.

          Thursday: 3 miles

Struggling to get back to a consistent schedule.

Couldn't pass up the 60 degree weather. First run in four weeks, but 5 miles in. Not too fast but under an hour.

Another beautiful day here in New England. A balmy 60 degrees, and another run. Only 2.6 miles today, didn't have time for a full fiver but at least made a run it fit in anyway.

Well on my way out for a five miler, DW's work called her in so, I could only do another 2.6. Slow, but faster than yesterday.

My goal for this year (seeing I didn't make last years goal os 12 races, only ran 2) is to do more mileage each month than I did each month last year. Not a difficult goal, but a good goal nontheless. And I've made January's goal already, LOL. As far as races I'll do what I can.
