  • ADBB Exercise of the Day 1/10/07



    Modified Pushup
    Starting Position
    Begin by getting down on yours hands and knees with your hands just outside shoulder width and slightly forward of your shoulders. Your knees should be directly aligned with your hips. Keep your abdomen tight and your spine in a neutral position.

    Action
    EXHALE: Bend your elbows and lower chest to 90 degrees at the elbows.

    INHALE: Push up so that your arms are straight, making sure your elbows aren’t completely locked. Try doing 2 sets of 10-12 repetitions.

    Special Instructions
    If you can’t go to 90 degrees at the elbow, just go to a comfortable position until you can work up to 90 degrees

    Hi Outback Jess,

    Thanks for posting that - I'm getting very board with my arms weights routine, so I'm going to give this a go. Hoepfully my weak arms will able to handle it

        Hi Jimmie 48,

        No I haven't done them yet - I did a bodypump class and burned my arms out last week. I think I'll give them a go tommorrow though. I need to tone up fast - I'm wearing a strapless dress to a party this Friday!

          you should try push ups on the stability ball, baarb. not only toning arms but giving those core muscles a work out too.

            I've heard of doing this, but I'm always worried the ball with roll away and I'll fall flat on my face!

            I'll have a search for the correct form...

            Here's a link if anyone's interested. Looks hard! I'll try it at the gym today and let you know how I get on!

              i don't see a link baarb but there is a challenge going on for ball push ups. i'm in it along with about 5 or 6 others.

              yes, it is harder.
              yes you will roll off but probably only once. you use so many more muscles. visit the challenges and look in on the thread. you'll see a link that tells you all about ball size in relationship to you heighth and you can see links to how to do them.

              good luck with trying them today!!!

                Hmm, not sure what happened to the link...

                I tried them today - so hard! First I wasn't sure how to get on the thing and then I wobbled around - so I can see how it helps the core muscles. I only managed 4 before dismounting very inelegantly (crashing to the mat) - but I'll try to build up. I'll check the thread for height and technique.

                I then did some of the pushups at the top of this thread so I didn't feel so pathetic - 10.
