5 mile run during lunch (33 degrees out, windy, brrrr), fastest time of 07, 52:21, still not as fast as some of my November runs, but it was warmer and I was wearing fewer clothes. And still not under 50 minutes, which I really wanted today, but not quite bad enough I guess.
I need these 5 milers to get easy so I can get at least a couple of 10 milers in before the half or I'll have to do the 10k.

Yes I'm eating a smore in the picture, how do you think I got so fat?

Well thanks for the kudos, I still think it's slow. If I was lighter, I'd be faster, so I've gotta get rid of this weight I regained and then some.
But, to answer your question, I ran once at the end of '04, but didn't really start until March of '05, I did a total of 182 miles in '05 and 152 in '06 (while gaining ) but '07 is gonna be my best mileage year. Most of my runs are 5 milers with a few 10's and 2.6's mixed in, and the odd race length as well. I did run a lot when I joined the Army almost 20 years ago, you would be surprised how much your body remembers how to do it.
I can't imagine how much faster I'll be 100 pounds lighter, but it's gonna be fun to find out.

I sure am having fun exceeding my personal bests...not that my personal bests are very good, but they're getting better and that's what it's all about.
Just week to week I see changes and results...even if its not in weight loss...it's results in SOMETHING which makes me feel satisfied. It's really cool.

It is fun getting faster, unfortunately I'm just getting back to as fast as I was. The thing I'm enjoying is the definition in my legs, they are getting shredded from the running. So while I still have a long way to go body fat wise, parts of me are starting to get a lot better.

Started my run this morning, didn't feel good, stopped, then remembered that I had an 8AM conference call. So I'll have to try and fit it in later today, but I don't have any good time windows, so we'll see.

Hi, guys... I have a question for you more experienced runners.
I'm training for a half-marathon and am following a training program. I do 4 miles twice per week, and my long run on Saturdays. I'm up to 9 miles on my long run now. Well, it's more like a long "slog." We do some walking intervals. Anyway, today we did 9 miles with 1/2 mile running segments with 1/10 mile recovery segments.
Anyway, my question is... is it normal to feel this lethargic on Saturdays after my long run? I didn't notice it as much when I was doing shorter distances, but when I do at least 7 or 8 miles, I'm exhausted afterwards. I'm fine and able to keep my energy up during, but for the rest of the day, I'm beat. Is that normal, or does it improve??
Adena, how long have you been running those longer distances? I'd say its normal at first to feel fatigued, especially if you don't run those distances regularly. You've worked your body hard; and it needs recovery time. Those are the times you MUST listen to your body and give it time to recuperate. If you don't, you risk injury .. serious injury.
I know after my long runs on Saturdays, if I go more than 13 miles, I feel very tired afterwards. I just kick back and do nothing for the rest of the weekend .. by Monday I am raring to go again.
Rest up, sweetie, and train smart. You will ROCK that halfer!
I've only been running distances above 6 miles on Saturdays for about 6 weeks. They are getting increasingly longer. Next week my schedule has me going back down to 6 miles on Saturday, and then up to 11 the next Saturday. (I don't understand the rhyme or reason behind the milage variations, but I'm following it!)
But, it sounds like feeling tired is somewhat normal. If even YOU are tired after a long run, Betty, that makes me feel better. Thanks.
Adena: I echo the same things Betty said regarding the training. Are you using a heart rate monitor? Even with walk breaks you may found that you are pushing your heart harder than you believe. I had to slow down almost to a walk to keep my heart rate in the 70% range for the LSDs (Long Slow Distance runs). Just a thought.
