  • Curves?

    Hello Everyone!

There is a curves location that just opened up by my work and i was considering joining and going on my lunch break. I am wondering if any of you are a memeber there and if so, do you like it? Has it helped? I took a look at the website and im a little concerned if what they do is enough to help lose weight? i'd appreciate any advice, thanks!

    Hey Speedy...LTNS

I like Curves, but I hate their hours. If their hours work for you, I say go for it. I think it's a great work out. You'll definitely loose inches.

I've known two different people who swear by curves and look great. They like the all women supportive atmosphere. It never worked out for me because they don't offer childcare.

I was just about to start this thread! I'm seriously considering it, good to know that it really does work for some people.

              Re: Curves?

I went to curves all of last year and I don't like it....No offense, but it is more for the older crowd or those that just need to move more. I lost about 30lb going there, but that was easily within the first few months. The music sucks and it is slow going. I dreaded going there everyday!! Once my membership was up this year I joined the Y and I love it!!! I am not a person that gets shy around men, but that is a good thing about curves (no men around). My mom went with me to Curves last year and she feels the same way (two different age groups) Just my opinion though.

                Re: Curves?

I joined Curves last week and I really enjoy it. At the one that I go to their are women of all ages. I usually get up and go early in the morning and it is mosty older people then but that doesn't bother me. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. I hope that it is enough to help me lose this weight. I've met some of the ladies already that have lost. Maybe before you join, see if they will give you a week pass to see if you like it. Some people do, some people don't. Good luck!

                  Re: Curves?

                  For anyone considering Curves:

If at all possible, see if you can get a trial period first. I liked it but my knees and legs didn't. And the others working out got ugly if you tried to modify or you were slow at getting off a machine.

I have a lot of Leslie Sansone DVDs that have worked wonderfully for me in the past. And I find I enjoy doing my workouts at home and/or alone so I can focus on them. At the moment, I'm dealing with some atrophied muscles but once they're stronger, I'll be using these DVDs hard again. 2.5 years ago, I was doing her four-mile workout without a hitch. One of my first physical goals is to be able to do a one-mile session 5 days a week.

Speaking of which, time for me to do my stretches and mild workouts for these wimpy muscles...

I didn't like the curves here in town,it cost too much for using such simple equipment.I DO how ever love the YMCA ,They draft your monthly fee out of your checking or savings and you can quit any time ,There is no contract to be stuck in.Best of all the one in my town has been redone and is state of the art with a huge pool, climbing wall ,daycare , and oodles of equipmant,,,,oh best of all the HOT TUB!It cost me $45 a month for a single parent /family member ship.

                      Re: Curves?

I was once a Curves member and enjoyed it for a short time the workout seemed to get boring to me going around and around in a circle. I did lose a lot of inches and pounds. I end up joining another gym that I liked more because of the variety. I do think Curves is an excellent starting point for those women new to a gym atmosphere. The ladies there were always friendly and when I went in I always requested a certain CD that I really liked working out to.

                        Re: Curves?

I have been going to the local Curves for around 3 years now . I really like it but from what some of the other ladies who visit other clubs say is some of the clubs dont offer much other than the machines while my club has weighted hula hoops, weighted bars and balls to use on the pads. The owner is also young and she offers a kind of personal trainer type of workout if you want--she tells you exercises, both cardio and weight type, to do on the recovery pads. I think if I just had to go around in a circle on the machines day after day and week after week without the variety I would not have been there so long. The bottom line I guess is you might try different clubs, if available and convienent because they are not all alike.
