  • shoe reccos for a steep hike and then jog back

So I've started a new routine where I take a steep forest hike (it's approximately 4 miles at a pretty good clip) and then jog back to the parking lot on a nice heavily mulched flat-ish terrain trail. It's awesome and I definitely enjoy it but I think my shoes are just completely wrong. Am I looking for "trail runners?" Obviously I don't want hiking boots if I'm jogging back but the jogging shoes aren't exactly perfect for the hiking part. Aside from wearing an extra shoe on each arm for when I reach the bottom of the hike trail - have any ideas on what I should be wearing?

    Thanks!

I'd go for a pair of trail runners. They're good for the trail and they're good for the running. Vasque, Nike, and other brands make trail runners. Personally my favorite brand for hiking shoes is Vasque, they're just that good. When I reached the top of Mt. Whitney last August, I was wearing my Vasque hiking boots. They're awesome.

All rightey - I have some new trail runners on the way! I tried to go to a few sporting goods stores to get shoes but, well, let's just say that trying to find the right pair of shoes while my two year old and five year old ran around trying out all the eliptical machines was just not even remotely productive! Not to mention the fact that they rarely carry my Mama Sasquatch shoes size of 10.5 (yeah the sales clerk came out with a hopeful look and a pair of 9.5's - um NO) and I really didn't want to buy men's shoes this time. So I ended up at www.zappos.com and they are having a free overnight shipping sale right now. I'm excited about my new shoes and can't wait for them to get here. I couldn't spend as much as I would have liked (have to save some money for toddler shoes too!) but I ordered the Addidas Tundra W trail runners. I hope they work out o.k. but if they don't zappos has free return shipping.
