  • The Search for the perfect Ellipt-a-whatsit!

    Hello!

First of all, I want to thank everyone in this forum for being so helpful. I have learned a few Ancient Chinese Atkins secrets on this forum, and I only have you all to thank! *bows*

... Anyway, my father is looking in to buy some excersize equipment for our family so we can get in some good workouts every day. We have room for 3 machines on our balcony, and we have decided on a rowing machine, an Elliptical (I hope I spelled that right) and this pushy-pully thing my dad likes to use (I can't really describe it other then like some combo of a see-saw and those things that people use to move along on railroad tracks).

Anyway, I'm pretty concerned on what Elliptical we should purchase. My father is drawing the line at 300 dollars, and he is DEFINITELY drawing it at 400. I have done a lot of research and a lot of people do not reccomend cheap Ellipticals... Well, I found a lot of these people were gym snobs and I wanted to come here to ask all of you notorious weight-losers what you think? I am looking for one with at least an 18 inch stride.... It doesn't have to have anything fancy on the screen, and one that is easy on the feet/joints/back... (I am a flatfoot--If that has any bearing.)

We are also looking for a rowing machine... That is the only thing my mother will use. But I found that those are not to pricey... So if anyone has any good reccomendations on those... I will greatly appreciate it!

Also... If you think that an Ellipctical is not a good idea, and that a treadmill is better... Let me know! I am trying to do all my homework before giving my father excersize equipment info.

Also... This is an Elliptical that he is looking into, is this a good one to purchase?

    Ebay - Elliptical

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks again,

    -N-

    Hey there -N-
I have a proform stationary bike and have used it for 5 years....I found it affordable and I paid 300.00 and it's held up great. I have a entry level elliptical from Weslo, I like it because it's gait is not too deep. I personally don't like the elliptical and absolutely love a good treadmill, which I hop on constantly at our subdivision's clubhouse...it's lifecycle.
You do want quality, if all of you are going to use it, it will make it a "high traffic" item. If you or your family are very overweight, some people really struggle in the knees with the elliptical...A treadmill can work for all fitness levels walking, jogging and or running...
Good luck on your choices...and you can really do alot of great exercise on either piece of equipment...

      Thank you, Outback Jess!

I am still trying to figure out whether it should be an Elliptical or Treadmill... I am stuck in the middle!

Re: The Search for the perfect Ellipt-a-whatsit!

        Hey all!

My father found the perfect elliptical that he is going to buy. (As soon as it goes on sale) it's a Proform XP 115... It has different stride settings: (12 inches, 15 inches, and 18 inches.) Which will be perfect since my father and I have long legs; my mom short. It also has a carb counter o.0 ... And it goes on sale a lot for under 400 Dollars.

Here is a link to it:

        Sears - Proform XP 115

... Just curious if anyone has any suggestions/comments on this particular model. If any of you guys say it sucks and hurts your legs or will bust out from under me after a day then perhaps I can persuade my father to look into another model!

        Thanks,

        -N-
