  • Not sure what to do...

    Hi all
I went to Curves today, and am thinking about joining. I'm worried about the 12 month membership. I know me I have been over 300 pounds for 20 years. If I had a lot of money I don't think I would care as much, but I don't. I want to do it. I'm not exercising. I got an exercise ball, but don't do it, but my 6 year old sure loves it . I got a new Richard Simmons DVD and I did it once. When I was a member at Slimmons (Richard Simmons Health Club in California) I went ALL the time, and I loved it. This is different though. I'm afraid I might get bored at Curves. I'm not trying to make up excuses...I just know me. It's silly to have a panic attack over joining Curves, but I am. I just don't know what to do. When I ask people that know me they say "You know how you are Niki. You get excited about something, and jump into it just to stop after a few weeks". That's true so it's hard to argue with. Blaaaaaa. I think I just needed somewhere to talk it out Thanks for listening

Re: Not sure what to do...

Find an activity that you love to do, and do it often. Do you like going for walks? Do you like playing a sport? Do you like yoga or pilates? If you enjoy something, you're more likely to do it. If you don't like gyms and don't think Curves is up your alley, then don't join! BUT, you need to find some sort of aerobic or strength exercise to do that won't bore you.

I would not want to go to Curves, but I love joining a gym. A great thing about being a gym member is that usually gyms offer GREAT classes like Kickboxing, Step Aerobics, Yoga, Pilates, etc. Each class has a little something different and the instructor changes things up to challenge you and keep you from getting bored. Check out some local gyms and see what they have to offer.

You might also want to check out some workout DVDs. I don't use them much so I'm not the best judge, but I'm sure others will be along to give some input.

      Thanks Julie
I didn't sign up, and am giving myself a couple days to really think about it
You're right. I do need to get moving. I am waiting for a Yoga DVD that you do with that big work out ball

nicole, let me invite you and encourage you to join in the 20/24 Challenge. you can get to the thread by going through the portal page or by simply clicking on the appropriate link in my siggy. it's a short and sweet challenge and one you can commit to, i am sure. it might just be the nudge you need to get something started.

you have a stability ball and we have a challenge for that! christy, bio, frumpy and myself would welcome you into that challenge even if you only committed to a few minutes per month. we could certainly help to keep you motivated. that challenge is located in the Exercise Challenges forum.
