  • Cool Running for the week of March 11, 2007

    Another week of running...YAY!

Monday, 3/12: 5.2 miles on a hot day in March. 82 degrees when I was out there at 4:00. Grrrr. Gonna be a long hot summer, to be sure!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Its worse now than it was on Sunday. Yesterday I could hardly feel it, but now its quite painful.

Yes, and I finished 250th out of 259. Not good, but then not bad I suppose bearing in mind my injury.

Rich, more and more I'm realizing that less-than-stellar performances in races are a part of being a dedicated runner. Not every race lends itself to a PR. What's important to remember is the fact that you are "competing" .. you are out there "doing it" .. yes, of course, we all want to finish better than the previous race, but honestly, how realistic is that? The key is to keep trying .. training, eating well, recovering, etc. Its a process. Much more than just donning your shoes and heading out the door. Running is an artform. I hope your blister feels better soon. Rest up.

Wednesday, 3/14: 5.2 mile run for me.

5.65K today. It was brutal. HOT, HUMID...ugh. I kept running out of breath too. Whereas last week I made personal bests and even did two 5 mile runs. Now, on those days I had a lot of calories during the day...about 1300 between breakfast and lunch. Today I haven't had a lot of calories, nor did I have many carbs today.

Do you guys find that on days you run, you have to have more calories?

Yep, Joy, more calories on running days!! You need the fuel if you want the car to run !! And most of all, be sure you're well hydrated .. this heat/humidity zaps you quicker than you think!

                      Great job, Girl !!

Rich, that is amazing, regardless of injury, that you run that far to me! I seem to be stuck at this 12-13 min mile that I can't seem to break through. I'm hoping persistence will eventually get me there. I'm such a turtle! Of course, I'm 5'3" so it doesn't help!

2.20 in for me today. Sorry for my absense the last two days - I got to the gym but did my weight training Wednesday and the bike yesterday because my legs were still limp from the work I'd given them the day before.

Joy, I wonder about that calorie thing. I find that I'm much less hungry since Atkins so actually could probably eat once-a-day if I didn't make myself eat something anyway. I also feel a little weaker since Atkins, but it may be that I'm still adjusting to the lower carbs (it's day 10 for me) and my calories are actually lower than when I used to try to count calories to lose weight! Crazy.

                          Happy Friday ya all!

Thanks jmprgrl. Keep up the training and eventually you will get quicker.

Tonight, I just did a quick one mile on the treadmill. Quickest one off mile ever, 7 minutes 24 seconds.
