I'm guessing there is a concrete number like 10 or 20 steps = 1 flight but I've never figured that out.

Re: How many steps are in 1 "flight"?
Well, based on my home building experience, a standard home with 7-1/2 foot ceiling would have 14 steps, however an office builing with 10feet between floors would have about 17. (standard step height for comfort is 7-1/2 to 8-1/2 inches, although 8-1/2 is a bit steep)
So it's a personal thing, are you counting flights for virtual office buildings? Then use 17. If it's just a personal thing 15 is a nice round number and makes your counting easier.Jim

Yes I'm eating a smore in the picture, how do you think I got so fat?

Re: How many steps are in 1 "flight"?
I have 5 steps from my garage to my kitchen, thought it might be nice to run up and down those for a while for some exercise variety, guess I'll go with 15 like you suggested...much easier that way.
Thank you Jim.Grant

Re: How many steps are in 1 "flight"?
I thought maybe there would be a standard you know? I know stair climbers tell you how many flights you've complete so I figured that there would be some agreed upon number that makes up a flight. Strange that there isn't eh?Grant

Re: How many steps are in 1 "flight"?
In the stair challenge, where we use the guidelines from the British Heart Association, a flight is 15 steps. However, in my experience, in the real world flights have all sorts of different numbers of steps

Re: How many steps are in 1 "flight"?
So then what happens if I enter the flight challenge but I go up 4 flights of stairs that are 11, 13, 12, 13, then do I have to add up every step I go up in order to equal the 15 steps/flight since it's not the same??27/f/5'10"

yes, thats what you do (otherwise you would climb Mount Everest awfully fast if your flights were 10 rather than 15).Originally posted by LyssieSo then what happens if I enter the flight challenge but I go up 4 flights of stairs that are 11, 13, 12, 13, then do I have to add up every step I go up in order to equal the 15 steps/flight since it's not the same??
I have no idea, though, whether this is some sort of British standard or just a number to calculate with. As I said, where I come from flights seem to have very different numbers of steps in them

Re: How many steps are in 1 "flight"?
I would seriously have to count every step all day?? I mean, those are just the ones at work, then I'd have to count the ones at home, where I have 1 flight, and 2 steps, and like, 5 steps coming into the house... and then I do the stairs at the mall, and the gym... ohmygod. Ok, well, I guess I'm not doing *that* challenge.27/f/5'10"

Re: How many steps are in 1 "flight"?
hehehe Lyssie, I have that problem too, but I *am* in the challenge
I never count any stairs I might take during the day, going downstairs or in the school yard or at the mall. I make it a set time and I have a flight of stairs at home, that I know how many times I have to go up (and then run down them) to get all sweaty and get my flights (of 15) in one hit for the day lol
confusing? hehehe
it's my passion now, who would have thought?
Grant, it's a great idea and for the challenge here, sannew is correct, it's 15 per flight. So 3 ups and 3 downs is one flight

Re: How many steps are in 1 "flight"?
I was thinking about it a few weeks ago, but never got around to it, but there's no way I'm going to be counting steps all day and I just don't see me adding more workout time to my day.

Re: How many steps are in 1 "flight"?
I had not ventured into this thread before because I thought there would be a cut and dried answer as to the correct amount of steps in a an "official" flight of steps. Boy was I wrong. I just counted at my house and there are 15 steps. Wonder how many calories I could burn running them?female
