  • Ab work that won't hurt your neck

It's time I get of the treadmill, put down the weights and work on this baby poochy belly. It always seems like my neck is sore and my abs aren't when I try to do crunches though. What's the most efficient way to work out your abs without straining your neck? I've tried the ab machine at the gym, but my back hurts, not my abs!

    Thanks!

    Pam

if your neck hurts, that means you could be pulling with your arms, or lifting with your neck, and not your abs.

When you do crunches, keep your eyes on the ceiling. Don't try to go for "height" or for lifting your torso way off the ground. Try small crunches lifting only a couple inches off the ground. As you get stronger, you'll be able to do higher lifts. Also try crossing your arms on your chest, or put your hands next to your ears, elbows out, so they're in "crunch position" but not actually touching your head.

Thank you guys. I actually always thought it required 'height' to be a good crunch! Good to know! I'm going to try them again, and some of those others from the link as well.
