    I was thinking of starting a walking/exercise club in my neighbourhood. I feel like it would be a great thing to hold me accuntable for my own exercise, Because other people are counting on me to excercise with them then I am forced to excercise. I have posted a thread before about how much I hate to excercise. This idea has been inspired from that thread. Maybe this will help me to be accountable.

    Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have any thoughts on how to organize such a thing. I am a beginner excerciser. I know there will be people that will be advanced. How will that work? Or, could I just ask for people that are in the same boat that I am in? I just dont know.

    As a beginning exerciser, walking with an advanced people isn't a good idea. Either they're going faster than you should be or you're hampering them. Unless, of course, someone is willing to go slow down and accomodate you.

    Not too sure about getting organized other than starting with friends or coworkers and getting the word out. Are you type of person that wants or needs others with you? For safety reasons, in some cases, yes. Personally, I like going at it alone so I can focus on what I'm doing, unless it's a mild bike ride with others.

    Would you get motivated with the challenges here, with others encouraging you on?? I'm just getting to the point of walking better myself and would like a pedometer challenge. Simply wear a pedometer all day long and get a certain number of steps in, regardless how it's done. I've heard a few health gurus say try to get 10,00 steps in a day. *snort!* I'm a long ways from that, pretty happy to just walk around the block once, but wouldn't mind setting my own goals and striving to meet or achieve them. I get so fired up to do any of this through the challenges...

      I use the challenges on the board to be accountable... that way if I'm going with someone or not, I'm still accountable here.

        I have a friend who wants to start walking with me as soon as she finishes her move into her new place. I would love to walk with her, but the fact is, she is almost a foot taller than me, and in far better shape physically. There is NO way I could keep up with her.
        I would think if enough people wanted to join a walking club, then it could work, as you could group people according to height and how advanced they are with their exercise regime. Or just advertise for people like you who want to start walking, but are looking for company and/or scheduling.

        If you lived near me, I would join!
