  • Working Out = Stalled Scale and Measurements? Yikes!

I started Induction again just over 2 weeks ago and started working out, seriously, a week and a half ago. However, my scale and measurements have been stuck for about 6 days.

Every morning I do 10-12 minutes on the Gazelle, 195 steps (13 flights) on my little stairstepper, 100 ab crunches, 100 transverse crunches (something my physical therapist taught me to help my lower back), and 50 oblique crunches (elbows to knees).

I'm doing 30 minutes on the treadmill (averaging 3.8 miles per hour-so about 2 miles in 30 minutes) and 30 minutes on the stationary bike (averaging a distance of 11 miles) - 3 times a week (usually Monday, Wednesday and Friday).

I'm doing a 45 minute water fitness class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lots of arm work with water weights and leg work using the resistance of the water.

Saturday I take off, except for my morning routine.

Sunday is either 30 minutes aqua jogging and 30 minutes water fitness, or I go for a bike ride for 30-60 minutes.

Okay, O Great Experts out there, help!!!!! The scale is not budging and my measurements are staying the same. Do I give this some more time? Do I lighten the load? Am I doing something wrong? Is it possible that my muscles are just adjusting and I might get a whooshie soon (oh please, oh please, oh please!)?

I just want my old athletic slim body back, and I know that just walking a few miles every day won't do it. These Hips O' Death just need to reduce, kiddies!

Help?!?!?!?! Any and all advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Stacy

yes. it is a 5 pounder. i never could hula hoop with the regular kind as a kid. it is actually easier once you get the hang of it...and it works the waist....it DOES work and it is fun!

6 days is NOT a big deal. Ask some other members who have been stuck for MONTHS! Give your body some time to adjust. You've just given it quite a shock, all of this exercise! Yes, you ARE building muscle (don't slap me ) and losing fat. Your measurements will reflect this eventually. Give it some more time.

One thing that happens when you work out is you retain water. Muscles need water to repair themselves after a workout. Also, it's important to have at least ONE full day of rest somewhere in there so your body can make said repairs and recuperate.

Hang in there, you'll see some changes!

Thanks Julie -- I think I just needed someone to remind me to actually take a day off. That's challenging when you're motivated!

Re: Working Out = Stalled Scale and Measurements? Yikes!

                It *is* tough!

Once you get that buzz, you don't want to quit. But it is much harder to exercise without that day off. If you don't take a day of rest, your body gets fatigued and you actually can't work out as intensely as you'd like to.

Now, a day of rest doesn't mean sitting on your duff. Usually I go for a nice long walk on my day "off" but it's nothing that's really physical, just something to keep me moving.

Re: Working Out = Stalled Scale and Measurements? Yikes!

Stacy, definitely stick with your exercise plan. I agree with Julie's suggestion to take a day off to rest and recuperate.

I'm sorta in the same boat. Up and down up and down, and its driving me nuts. I feel your frustration. Keep exercising though because it does make a difference.

I haven't seen much change in my measurements (at least the places I actually measure) but people are making comments like mad. I've got two areas on my body where I'm getting VISIBLY thinner, but its not where I put the measuring tape. Go figure.
