  • weight gain and exercise

    Hi all,

So I've joined a gym a week ago and have gone everyday since. When I'm there, I do approx. 30 mins on the elliptical then I use weights to tone my arms and legs (as suggested by the gym staff) but here's the prob...I'm gaining weight! You can imagine my dismay. Will the weight gain go away soon or is this something I should get used to? I imagine that this is an effect of toning my muscles by to be honest my little bit of motivation is going away quickly...HELP

    Re: weight gain and exercise

It happens. As you put on muscle, you may gain but you will still be losing inches and will burn fat at an even greater clip. Eventually, as you tone up, your weight will come down. Don't just look at the scale. Look at how much better you feel and how much better your clothes are fitting and how you are slimming down.

Keep up the good work! It will pay off!

Measure yourself instead and drink PLENTY of water. I discovered I needed to up my water intake on days when I would workout otherwise I would retain water!

Thanks for the advice Fatalblue and Gonnabe Skinny...I'll hang in there and keep you updated

Fatalblue why does the body retain water? Should I drink more water before or after a workout?

          Re: weight gain and exercise

I've read that you should drink at least 8 oz a half hour before you start to exercise and 16 to 24 ounces per hour of exercise. After exercising you should drink another 8 ounces or more.
