    Hello,

I am considering trying a kickboxing class and I'd be interested to hear if anyone has tried it.

The website says it is suitbale for all ages and abilities, but I am suspicious as they want people to get through the door and give them their hard earned cash I am kind of nervous to go incase it's all very macho and too advanced. If so, I will train towards it, and probably not give up on the idea.

I have been trying to think of something I can do with progression and to really be a challenge for my fitness. The gym is getting a little dull; classes are great but don't lead anywhere and football is great but I'm not a natural! Also I would like some kind of self-defence.

    Any thoughts?

    Re: Kickboxing

Is it an aerobic kickboxing class, or more like self-defense?

If it's aerobic, you've got nothing to worry about. You should see some of the people that have been in my kickboxing classes. They haven't learned "right" from "left", nor can they keep a beat. If you can stand unsupported you will be fine!

All joking aside, kickboxing is a great workout and it is very challenging if you really push yourself. Classes are great because the routine is constantly changing. Just try it out, and if you don't like it, you never have to go again. New people show up to fitness classes all the time, and I have YET to meet an instructor who wasn't helpful, encouraging, and accomidating. JUST DO IT!

      Re: Kickboxing

I've done aerobic kickboxing & it's a load of fun! I was clumsy as an ox when I first started, but after I got used to the basic moves, it was easier to go on to the more complex combos. One thing you need to watch out for though is not to overextend your arms or legs when doing punches and kicks. You gotta keep those joints "soft."

      Aerobic kickboxing = MAJOR SWEATFEST!!

      Give it a try!

        Hi Bio and Julie,

Thanks for the replies I have kind of tried aerobic kickboxing - at Bodycombat, which I really enjoyed, but I'm thinking of trying actual scary proper martiak kickboxing classes taught by Senseis with black belts etc.

I guess your comments stil apply though - give it a go, right? I probably will I just need to get up the nerve...

Yikes!!! That sounds pretty scary! I personally don't like physical contact sports with other peeps, especially when I can, and will, get hurt. I think I've seen too many karate-type movies, young grasshopper. If you've got the guts, I say go for it.
