Wow, Rich, you are really putting in the mileage!!!! Just wondering .. how do you hydrate during such long runs, aside from water?? Any snacks? Do you ever feel nauseated or experience stomach issues? That's my biggest issue with running long miles in this heat ... I get ZAPPED in a hurry ! Dizzy, delirious, etc...just wondered how you combat that??

Monday, 8/6: 6.4 mile run early this morning before sunup. It was still 80 degrees and about 90% humidity.

Re: Cool Running for the Week of August 5th

Sorry I didn't see this earlier Betty.

Up to 12 miles, just water. Beyond that I like to have a electrolyte replacement drink. Ultima is pretty good. If I have to stop at a gas station or party store along the run, Powerade Option is much lower in carbs that Gatorade and will work in a pinch.

No snacks for runs under 3 hours. I usually eat my normal bowl of FlaxZSnax Hot cereal an hour or so before I run. That's usually good.

Now I'm over 18 mile long runs (3+ hours) this coming weekend. In the past, I've used some kind of low carb protein bar. I'd really like to stay away from anything that has sugar alcohols or any other chemicals in it this time...

      Actually, any Low Carb suggestions?

Today was hot and humid and more miserable than my last run.

9 sweaty bug infested miles. Is Fall coming?

Thanks, Rich. I would suggest maybe picking up some fruit at the gas station? Most quick shops around here sell bananas/apples, etc., which would provide you some added energy for those long runs. No need to worry about the carbs, my friend!!

As for fall .. well I'm sure you don't have as long to wait for it as I do .. it won't get here until mid-Nov or so .. until then, its SWELTER CITY...ugh.

Wednesday AM: 6.3 miles in before sunup. I like getting out there early before the sun, but at that hour, the humidity is unbelievable. Not sure which is worse, the heat or the humidity.

10 miles in on trail race. Finished in 1:34:41. Just under 9:30 miles.
Pretty good. Took it easy since tomorrow is a 19 mile long run.
