Re: Cool Running for the week of September 9, 2007
Yah, so, I've been ordered to start posting here.
A little sheepish, given that I'm only in my fifth week of running or so.
But anyway, this evening I ran for 2 miles. I tried to go faster this time, because, honestly, I go r-e-a-l-l-y slow (but steady - I got the rhythm). It was interesting; I've been getting up at 4:15 a.m. to run on Wednesdays and Fridays (Sunday a.m. is later, of course) but it's getting so chilly that I decided to run this evening instead. I was more tired starting out, and didn't enjoy it as much - I'll have to tweak my snacks, I think.
So....question: Does the burn in the legs EVER go away? For any part of the run?

For me, it depends on how hard I push. During easy long runs (from 8-12 miles), I don't notice the burn in my legs. But if I am pushing harder, doing HIIT, for example, then, yes, the burn is there. As you become better conditioned, you shouldn't feel the burn quite as much.

Thanks, Betty! I noticed it quite a bit on Tuesday night, though last Sunday wasn't as bad - probably because on Tuesday I was pushing myself to go faster.

20 miler in. It was supposed to be on Sunday, but I had the day off today and the weather was cool... Came in at 3:17:43 or 9:53 pace. Average heart rate in the low 140s. Chicago in October should be cooler than it was this afternoon.
I'm thinking Chicago should be 4:10 to 4:20 somewhere....
Re: Cool Running for the week of September 9, 2007
I did a three mile run this morning. The first two were really hard - I felt sluggish and like I was going uphill. The last was a blast - I had the rhythm, and I felt at the end that I could have kept on for another mile. Maybe I'll try it Sunday - or maybe not.

Evermind, I think the first mile is always the toughest. Just to get the body moving takes alot of effort .. for *me* anyhow! Once I get going though, running becomes so much fun I'm hard to stop!
Saturday, 9/15: 7.5 mile run early this morning. It was 86 degrees and 99% humidity at 7:30AM ... I sweat a ton!
