  • Help Me Get Motivated

Someone please say something to get me motivated to exercise! I have an incredible amount of obsticles to overcome to do this. I'm thinking (only thinking), that now that it's getting cooler here in MI, that I could start taking walks. Would it be enough if I did it 3 times a week? I used to bike ride 7-11 miles 5 days a week on dirt and hilly roads! Where did that person go? That was just a couple years ago! My youngest child is special needs and I get alot of headaches. Those are only a small part of my excuse.

Tomorrow, 9-11 is my first day of induction. Second time around!

    Thanks for any kind words!

    Re: Help Me Get Motivated

Maryjo, this is a hard thing for us to do. I believe that motivation for something long term like losing weight and getting fit has to come from within. Ask yourself why you want to do this. What is it that made you finally decide that now is the time to get going, what are your goals and what do you need to do to achieve those goals? Write these things down and put them in a place where you see them constantly. Find some pictures or stories that inspire you and save those as well and when you feel unmotivated look at these things and remember why you are doing all this.

To me it boils down to this: are you worth the effort? Of course you are. Do you deserve to live the kind of life where you feel good about yourself? Of course you do.

Now get out there and do it.

      Re: Help Me Get Motivated

When I decided I had to exersize to save my life from diabetes and obesity...
I started with just 30 minutes a day... everyday as a goal... knowing that I would miss once or maybe twice a week... I already owned a stationary bike, lots of videos, a trampoline, a treadmill so I had no excuses as to weather... I agree it has to come from within... for me when the doctor said...'you have diabetes' I pictured my uncle dying such a painful dealth after losing his feet, his vision, his kidneys... and then having a stroke. That's just so sad! he had diabetes but didn't take care of himself and believed God would heal him with out him having to change a thing in his lifestyle...
I would tell myself... I want to keep my feet and my vision and my kidneys...
since then I have been faithful, not missing more than 2 days a week...
Diabetes is gone now... I passed my glucose tolerance test! But, now I just love to exersize! especially outside! It's been so nice lately! really enjoy it and the results! I'm actually running now! I have tons more energy now too and I'm not even 'there' yet to my goal! but enjoying the process. Do some soul searching and figure out why you want to and what would motivate you... 30 minutes 3 times a week is minimum but if that's all you can do now... do that!

Wow! Thank you Grant and Hopejoy for you words! I will reread this post when I need encouragement. Even though I am taking the time out of my bust schedule to exercise, I will have less sitting around time cuz I feel sick or don't have any energy!

I'm taking a walk today! Thanks!!

          Re: Help Me Get Motivated

Sounds like enough to me. I mean the required amount to exercise is like 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes each day, so i do believe, it is enough, but if you are comfortable with doing it more then try and make a little more time for exercising. Start to do the running and other activities you used to do instead of the walking. It sounds like it made you happier. Maybe write it down for the times you want to exercise and what type of exercise you will be doing for example: walking one day, then maybe running the next day. You could alternate it also, you see that.

Get that bike back out, if you enjoy it! If starting out you can only walk 3 times a week, go for it. The more you do it, the better you feel.

If your child/children like to dance, dance with them. Walk with your kids, they tend to open up and talk more when you do. Ride your bike with them. Consciously make more trips carrying in groceries or picking up the house. Just find ways to be active. Try to find things you like to do--it makes it much easier.

Good luck, exercise makes you feel better and look better. We're cheering for you!
